I am using Ubuntu 20, Laptop and added external usb network card I get a weak wifi signal in my native card and better signal in the external card and see both of them as connected wifi, one with weak signal and one with strong signal.

The weak wifi is not stable, and I would like it to not hurt the stable network I get from the external card

How can I either 1.Use both and guarantee it not to hurt the network performance (mostly stability, speed is not the issue here. i get unstable network error while using Zoom) 2.Use only the external one

I have a Windows machine, and it's OS is alongside with the a few more partitions on one hard drive.

I want to use Ubuntu live cd, in Order to copy that OS drive to another, bigger hard drive and utilize that space.

I managed to copy the drive using ddrescue and it works fine, but then I have a lot of un utilized space on the new bigger drive.

I would like to os partition To use all the extra space

I tried to copy the partitions using Gparted and resize the OS partition, the system did not boot afterwords

I tried to use ddrescue to copy the drive, and then Gparted to change the partition's size, But it's not the last partition on the disk, so I could not, When I tried to resize the other later partitions and then "make room" for that partition and then resizing it, the machine did not boot afterwords.

How can I copy the drive, and keep it bootable, allowing one partition use all the extra space I have on the larger disk?

I am using ubuntu 18 and wish to update both the firmware and the bios. Does updating the firmware using this manual and this command update the bios as well as the firmware?

sudo fwupdmgr update

I am using ubuntu 18 with a pc (asus motherboard) and trying to update the firmware using this

After starting the service using those commands nothing happens

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo service fwupd start
sudo fwupdmgr refresh
sudo fwupdmgr update

Nothing happens

I also tried the following, and nothing happend

sudo fwupdmgr update -v
sudo fwupdmgr update --force
sudo fwupdmgr update --show-all-devices

Nothing happens, no output no nothing. Ideas?

Hi i am using Ubuntu 18 and need Airmedia to connect to a monitor at our office, I can't seem to find a Linux client, is there anything that will suit this need?

I am using ubuntu 18 with remmina to manage my ssh sessions.

I can connect to my machine (on local network) using:

• remmina with ip
• regular ssh with ip
• regular ssh with hostname

When trying to use remmina with hostname I get "can't find host" error.

What can be the problem? Thanks

I am using ubuntu 18 and trying to use this guide to add mac like trackpad gestures, I did everything and nothing happens. my lenovo laptop supports multi gesture.

When I get to run:

systemctl restart systemd-logind.service

my system freezes and gets stuck.

What am I doing wrong here? Is there a simpler solution?

I am using ubuntu 18, I had issues using hibernation

systemctl-hibernate 
pm-hibernate

setting the power button to hibernate, dconf-editor, alt+power button, and gnome extentions did not work

It started working after I used

sudo apt install uswsusp

Now only pm-hibernate works, non of the others including systemctl-hibernate and the power button being set up to hibernate, and alt+power button

I assume that the default action when using the power button with or without alt is the systemctl-hiberate.

How can i set it up to use pm-hibernate?

I am using ubuntu 18, and need to be able to shutdown the pc, and keep the apps working for the next time I start the pc.

I've tried to allow hibernation and set up the shutdown button to hibernate, when I use it and turn the pc on, everything is closed, no application remain running.

I've tried to switch "save gnome session" on, using the dconf editor, and still, no luck. I turned it on and nothing remains open when I shutdown the machine.

How can I get that results?

I have a dell latutude 5480 running ubuntu (had the same issues with 16 and 17 as well)

I have connected a dp monitor via usb type c, it did not work, i have tried to play with the connection and it worked for a moment, than i have used sudo apt get update, upgrade and it stopped again.

I have installed a fresh ubuntu 17 and it still does not work

The monitor is working perfectly when connected to another machine using the very same cable.

I am running

lspci -d ::0c03 -k

and getting

I use

tail -f /var/log/kern.log 

And connect and unplug the adapter, and see no reaction

I read that it probably means that i am missing a driver, but can't find any reference for how to install one...

Edit: when I use usb type c -> dvi cable with the same machine, os and monitor it works like a charm, does this mean that the usb port and driver are ok and the problem was the adaptor?

I had some trouble installing ubuntu on my mini laptop (asus x205ta) and found that there is no good, smooth and straight forward way to install ubuntu on it instead of the factory win 10. so now i feel that checking before i am buying is probably a good idea.

Will i be able to install a regular ubuntu \ Lubuntu on this mini pc?

How can i check that?

I am using both Ubuntu and Lubuntu 16.04 and this question is regarding both of them.

I want my computer to always shut down 2 hours after it was turned on, i tried to use these instructions that I found to run a timed shutdown on startup but it does not work.

How can I do that?

I need to add a file to the lubuntu iso in order to boot from a 64 bit iso as explained here

I tried to do it as explained here and nothing happens

I tried to mount it like explained here and get the following error:

desktop-amd64.iso /media/iso mount: /media/iso not mounted or bad option

   In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
   dmesg | tail or so.

And i also try to mount it with Furius iso and when i try to copy something to the mounted folder, it raises the error

Error while creating directory Untitled Folder. There was an error creating the directory in /home/shai/lubuntu-16_10-desktop-amd64_iso. Error creating directory: Function not implemented

Is there any straight forward way to add a file to the iso?

I created a bootable Lubuntu USB using a Ubuntu 16 machine using the startup disk creator tool in Ubuntu. the disk is created well. than i need to add a file to the folder EFI/BOOT

I need to add there the 32 bit bootloader and try to use sudo cp bootia.efi /media/user/Lubuntu 16.10 amd64/EFI/BOOT/bootia32.efi and get the following error:

cp: cannot create regular file '/media/user/Lubuntu 16.10 amd64/EFI/BOOT/bootia32.efi': Read-only file system

Seems that the file system is read only, i changed the read only bit, as explained in the following link as explained here

And still get an error that says the drive is not writable. How can I make it writable?

I run Ubuntu 14 LTS, and ran get update and get upgrade just now,

I have a user that runs Dropbox, and it is running great,

I created a new user and try to link it to Dropbox too and getting some weird massage that i can't sign in to Dropbox because my version is not updated, but it works great on the old user, i tried to disconnect and reconnect and it works well.

I can't seem to find any update for Dropbox in the software center...

Is this is a known bug?
