The issue is my password becomes incorrect. If I use ctrl+alt+f3 to open a terminal and input my user name(checked the user name in recovery mode ls \home) and I am 100% sure my PW is correct since I can log in before the upgrade.

The error message I have is Login incorrect plus after a minute or 2, the terminal will reset. It looks like a login loop.

There are similar questions asked here.

Log in fails and returns to log in screen
but none of them can resolve the issue I am having.

Any suggestions?

I am using a compact keyboard at home, but a full-size keyboard in the office on the same laptop. When I am using the compact keyboard, to use the arrow keys, I need to hold the Fn key since the default arrow keys are right-alt, ?, Menu and right-ctrl. Any way I can map the arrow keys for the compact keyboard without changing the keys for the full-size keyboard?

I have multiple version of c++ compilers installed on my laptop. I am trying to build my code using g++-9.3 with a 32-bit compiler. So I tried to install the multilib by using sudo apt-get install gcc-multilib g++-multilib and also tried to install the following packages sudo apt install g++-9-multilib sudo apt install gcc-9-multilib

However, the result is

I am trying to install the latest graphic card driver. So I need to know the exact model of the card I am using, without opening my PC case, checking the model physically. I tried:

lspci | grep AMD | grep VGA

which getting the following result

VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 10 [Radeon RX 5600 OEM/5600 XT / 5700/5700 XT] (rev c1)

The result is not bad, but for installing the driver the result is not good enough since 5700 and 5700XT have different drivers. So my question is, is there a way to know the exact model?

I have the following errors stopping the Ubuntu to update

I downloaded the intel graphics tool for updating drivers and got following error:

I am having a difficult time to run syslog GUI. I added a new filter in the System Log. What I did is: click the button at the top right of the GUI window (the button with a gear icon). Then, click the menu item filter-> New -> filled with a filter name (the filter name is words with a space character separated)and a key word of the log I would like the see -> click ok to finish to create the filter.

After that, the system log crashed. Since then, I could not run the syslog gui anymore. Every time I try to start the application, it automatically closed directly.

Here is the log file content related the syslog. It seem KLogPermitNonKernaelFacility is unable to run. Anyone knows how to fix the problem?

[Edit 2.1] After I use:

tail -f /var/log/syslog

I found everytime I try to run syslog, the kernel gives me:

[What I tried] I tried to uninstall rsyslog and reinstall

apt-get autoremove rsyslog

and then do

apt-get install rsyslog

[Edit 2] Did an uninstall with purge as MicroParsec suggested. Still unable to start the log application

Environment:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. The machine uses Intel iris Pro Graphics 580 (Skylake GT4e) graphics processor.

Vulkan: 1.0.21.1

The problem, I installed the Vulkan 1.x SDK, and try to run the cube example. The error message I got is: 

./cube
vkEnumerateInstanceExtensionProperties failed to find the VK_KHR_surface extension.

Do you have a compatible Vulkan installable client driver (ICD) installed?
Please look at the Getting Started guide for additional information.

After I installed mesa-util I had following error message:

FINISHME: Get correct values for VkPhysicalDeviceLimits
vulkan: No DRI3 support
Could not find a graphics and a present queue

Solutions I tried:

  1. https://gist.github.com/SaschaWillems/47be6970a3e99a3d30e1 (I used the Mesa 12.01 instead of Mesa master but I think 12.01 is good enough.)

  2. https://launchpad.net/~canonical-x/+archive/ubuntu/vulkan Still unable to run the cube example after the package is installed.

Any idea about how to get vulkan runs on Intel GPU?
