I'm new to cinnamon desktop, I used gnome session fallback and mate before. What I'm trying to achieve is the following: when I right click on a window on the panel, the popupmenu should be right above the place I clicked. But for some reason the popupmenu is designed in a way that its left corner is positioned to the center of that window switcher thing. But I'd like to move it to the left side.

So basically:

I think it could be done by editing popupMenu.js but I'm not sure how. I didn't find anything relevant in css files. Any thoughts?

(I'm on ubuntu 16.04, cinnamon 3.0.7)

I accidentally deleted /var/log/syslog and now I can't get rsyslog working.

I was googling, I tried everything I found. To be precise:

I created syslog with touch.

Then I set chmod and chown correctly. Now ls -al gives this result:

I rebooted the system several times.

I even re-installed rsyslog with apt-get purge and apt-get install

But none of these helped me. As you can see above, syslog still has a length of 0 bytes, nothing gets logged.

Even when I'm trying to log something manually, nothing gets logged:

Are the features of Ubuntu for Android included in Ubuntu touch? Like going into a full desktop? I'm a bit confused.

I hate gnome3, so I installed MATE (gnome2 fork) in my Ubuntu 12.04 desktop. It's pretty good, but I have a problem: it doesn’t have (or I haven't found) a working indicator applet on the top panel. I installed mate-indicator-applet package, but it displays only a message icon, but I need volume-control with rythmbox panel, ubuntu1 and a system menu (logoff, shutdown, hibernate, etc.)

So is it possible to set the indicator applet like the normal gnome?

I've just installed xscreensaver instead of gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu 12.04 in gnome-session-fallback (Gnome Classic) mode. It works fine, but I have a problem: I put "xscreensaver -no-splash" command to the startup applications list.

But it doesn't start automatically, I have to run this command manually. I think that the problem is that it tries to start before I log in. So how can I start it automatically after login?

I moved to a different DE a long time ago, so this issue no longer affects me. New answers are still coming, however I cannot mark any of them as accepted as I can't test them any more.

I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit). I hate unity, so I use gnome-session-fallback. Everything works fine (OK, not as well as it worked in gnome2...) but if I open a new window, it always appears in the top-left corner corner and its menu bar is behind my top menu bar (with application menu, places, etc.).

How can I fix it? It annoys me a lot. Please help!
