I got a good usb microphone with excellent quality, but I also have a clicky mouse and keyboard (both with mechanical switches). I wanted to ask if it is possible to connect my mic to some kind of filter/sound editing software (via jack for example) where I can reduce the noise for calls via Skype and Hangouts?
Кристиян Кацаров's questions
I look thoroughly and I saw that this kind of question was not solved before in the AskUbuntu community. My problem is pretty simple and am sure a lot of Ubuntu users have it:
- Simply explained, Ubuntu is not able to run multiple monitors with different resolution, size and dpi.
Having the same size full hd monitors works flawlessly, but I have a laptop that has 4K display and a monitor that has 2560x1080 resolution (21:9) and I cannot use the second monitor because everything is scaled and zoomed. Here are some screenshots of my settings (am using Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS):
Enabling "Fractional Scaling" does not work as expected - the scaling on the second monitor (2560x1080) is kind of blurry and my PC is lagging, the mouse is blinking and so on. Just for information, I have i7 9750H, 16gb of ram and dedicated gtx 1650 gpu, but it seems that the PC starts to lag a log as soon as I enable "Fractional Scaling".
I found an article that might help me: https://techknowfile.dev/using-a-hidpi-monitor-with-a-low-resolution-external-monitor-ubuntu-i3/ but because I have played with xrandr
before and messed up stuff so badly without understanding them I decided to call for help here.
I would be really grateful if you help me solve this problem. This should help many other users as well, having a similar problem.
I wanted to ask if its possible to stream the output only from Chrome or other programm to skype using pulseaudio. If I choose the monitor of my playback device, the skype user hears himself, because his talking is also coming to my playback device which I redirect to skype from the recording tab. If I play a video on Chrome for example, how can I stream the audio output to the skype user without him hearing himself? (I would like to hear the audio from youtube too)
Edit: I forgot to mention that I also want to mix in the input from my microphone (I am using one via usb) so that I can talk while playing Chrome videos
Edit #2: I achieved redirecting the output to skype, but now I cannot hear the song myself:
I have Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and nvidia 1650 dedicated graphics (and intel 630 uhd integrated). When the laptop is plugged in, it runs really fast and has no problems, but as long as I unplug the charger, the system becomes really slow and unusable. The only way to "fix" this is enable "powersaving mode" in Prime profiles of my nvidia driver (currently 435, latest LTS). Rebooting back to nvidia performance mode makes the pc unusable again (and drains a lot of battery, literally for nothing).

So I have the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the latest Dell Inspiron - when I use my headset (Beoplay H9) with my smartphone (call via skype/whatsapp/viber) the quality is really good, but when I use the headset with my laptop, the quality is really poor, as if A2DP was not enabled. I wonder if I should try a USB Bluetooth dongle, as my headset supports aptX LL and cvc - maybe this will help improve the quality in Ubuntu?
I wonder if there is somebody here who has expensive headphones and can help me out use them with Linux. Thanks in advance!

With beoplay h9 headphones, when I connect through USB C I can hear the sound from testing the speakers (left and right), but when I play music (youtube or spotify), I hear nothing. 3.5mm jack works correctly, as well as Bluetooth, but USB audio fails.
I am using Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS with 5.3.0-40-generic
kernel. Testing speaker through "Sound" from settings works, but there is no audio in any other application (e.g. VLC, Chrome or other)
This works:
This is what I see for audio devices:
I tried S/PDIF as well, with no success. Touch controls (volume up/down) work from the headphones. The microphone does not work as well.
How can I troubleshoot this?
I am using Ubuntu 19.10 with the new Inspiron from Dell - 7590 (model info from Arch Linux)
The microphone does not work, but speakers do. I tried anything - building kernel 5.5.6 and updating alsa to 1.2.1, but it does not seem to help. The integrated microphone as well as the 3.5mm generally do not work, but there seems to be activity in pavucontrol (I think this is white noise). Also there is nothing shown as input (when I go to settings -> sound), but I can see something in pavucontrol
My multimedia controller is:
00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Cannon Lake PCH cAVS (rev 10)

No input devices show by default on clean install of Ubuntu. I tried 18.04 (LTS) but the result is the same, so I switched back to 19.10. When I run pavucontrol
it shows this:
I can see noise and that the mic is recording something (but I cannot control it from the sound settings) but it does no react to my voice.

Update: seems the mic now works under Archlinux: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dell_Inspiron_15_(7590)
Update #2: With a little help from sof developers, I think I can get my mic (as well the one from many other dell laptops) working - https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/issues/2502
I had both Xubuntu and Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS on my ThinkPad T480s and there is a clear difference of the bluetooth performance between both distros. The Xubuntu distro autoconnects and has no problems finding devices, is also faster. Does anybody know why and how I can get the same bluetooth performance / drivers / interface in Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS as in Xubuntu 18.04.3 LTS?
Here is a video of the behaviour: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1md0_2J5H5dV0w6MdBpUGi9eUyhQMinMr
Just got into a new office, where there are two printers: 4505ac and 5005ac from Toshiba. There are no drivers available (in the database) for these models. Also I need to enter a department code somewhere?
On a previous version of Ubuntu, it is quite possible to setup a Toshiba e studio - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qh6nL4oVVHQ
On the official website with drivers - http://business.toshiba.com/support/downloads/index.html?model=5005ac it says there are Linux Filter Color drivers, which I honestly do not know how to install:
I noticed that youtube videos are flickering especially when the whole image/scene is replaced by another (for example a girl dancing in one POV in a video is ok, but as soon the camera POV changes, the screen flickers and the upper half is like 10px right/left).
My CPU is Intel Celeron G3900. No dedicated gpu, but still I don't think this should be happening on 720/1080p videos.
EDIT: Screenshot attached
Let's say I have a process running for 3 months without stop. I want to see some statistics how this process has behaved? What can I do in order to track this?
I am looking for a way to disable all ports except SSH and 80 in a dedicated server per SSH. I think this can be done via ufw but it says that ssh connections might be dropped. What should I do?
How can I make copy/paste in the Ubuntu 16.04 Shell? For example, pasting a string from my browser to the cli and execute it as a command (Ctrl+V not working by default)
As you see Ubuntu shows that my battery is in a charged state at 97%. My laptop is almost 3 years old (battery as well). How should I understand these 97% and are they correct? Under Windows, there is a MSI tool for calibrating my MSI battery, but under Linux I do not know what to do. Appreciate any help in terms of that matter. Thank you.

I wanted to ask how can I develop a simple script/app and put it in the status bar near the time (top right). Let's say I have a laptop and the script gets the battery current usage in watts every 10 seconds so it is shown in the status bar. Am using ubuntu 16 with unity
