I've just installed a new ubuntu 16.04 ,
fresh install clean , logged in the first and only thing i did is selecting the proprietary driver 361 for nvidia , rebooted the machine .
anfter rebooting i can login but unity isn't showing , i can still right click though and open terminal , tried many answers:

did not help , i got frustrated , booted into usb and freshly installed it again, this time i tried 340 drivers same problem .
i mean this is 16.04 LTS for gods sake .
i have dual grahpic cards nvidia gt 740m , intel built on ASUS laptop .

Long story short , i inserted a windows 10 bootable USB deleted all partitions previously were installed , did this in command prompt :

diskpart
select disk 0
clean

then installed a windows 10 on the machine .
after that made a new bootable USB with ubuntu 16.04 , after booting the USB , before installing i had a warning saying somthing like :

another operatin system (windows 10) is installed , using legacy BIOS and you are trying to install ubuntu through uefi , if you continue you might not be able to load the other operating system

i ignored it and went to install ubuntu, created a new partition alongside windows created a swap partition , and i the bootloader partition i think was the hard disk itself .
after finishing the installation i couldnt see windows entry in grub menu .
after searching i booted again into windows 10 usb and in command prompt i did :

bootsect /nt60 c: /mbr  

this command deleted ubuntu grub and now im only able to load into windows 10 .
how can set up grub with both ubuntu and windows 10 entries ?

I have an Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT HD Audio Controller .
when recording sound using Audio Recorder , the output is a distorted sound barely you can understand .
but in skype it works perfect and i get a clear sound , what is the problem ?

BTW i tired external and internal microphones , Distro is Ubuntu 15.04 untiy .

Actually i have 3 major problems I'll list according to importance :
Couple of information first :
I'm using ubuntu 14.04 64bits on newly purchased Asus SonicMaster s551l with touchscreen , it comes with dual video cards Intel's and nvidia gforce gt 740m (I'm using proprietary drivers).

Problems :
1- when on battery mode (no charger pluged in) ubuntu keeps freezing every 3 minutes (average) meaning nothing works except sound (mouse doesn't move or click, screen stays still i.e when playing video stays on the same frame), example when i play video on youtube then it freezes the sound keeps playing , until now my solution was to close the laptop led wait a couple of seconds then login and every works as nothing happened .
this is ubuntu only problem cause it doesn't happen in windows i tested before i asked here .

2- Touch screen related issues : i have unity laucher on auto hide but it doesn't show up when i swipe from the sides , plus chrome tabs can't be selected dragged closed (by touching x) or even create new tab by touching the "+" button.

3- Function + bright buttons don't work (only these two) , I can't play with screen brightness using the keyboard (i can still through the setting though) .

I'm trying to upgrade from ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 .
but i have xorg-edgers drivers installed ,so I get error when I upgrade.
same errors as here
so i tried the command :

grep Broken /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log

and got a list of packages as here

how do I remove those packages ?

I'm trying to connect to my android from Ubuntu 13.04 PC.
But my wireless manager in ubuntu can't detect my android wireless network.
I tried on windows and it works , what could be the problem ?
Also : usb tethering works in ubuntu just the wireless doesn't.
Additional Info:
1 - my friends ubuntu (same as mine) detects my phone.
2 - my ubuntu detects my friends android hotspot.

It looks like the problem is my ubuntu.
Does anyone have any idea ?

As the title says ,I get warnings with those two issues ,
The code compiles and run ,but its driving me crazy all those red and yellow lines under the code.
How can I remove them and still get the warnings and errors for "real" errors .

I have made a BOOTABLE USB installation of Ubuntu 13.04 using pendrive linux.
I also have Windows 8 on separate partition. After I finished installing Ubuntu 13.04 from the USB, it went straight to Windows 8 without Grub showing to ask me to select an
operating system, how can i fix this ?
I don't have UEFI or secure boot.

I want to program somthing using opengl es , i search software center for anything related
and i found libgles1-mesa-dev , then i wrote a simple main program and included :

#include <GLES/gl.h>  
#include <GLES/glext.h>  

and it compiles , but if i try to use an opengl es function it says undefined reference . (meaning the include without using functions compiles , but after writing a function it gives that error)

i compiled using simple

gcc ./*.c -o xxx  

how can i use this library to program opengl es 1.x ?
or opengl es in general ?

I've installed MS Office 2007 in Ubuntu 12.04 using Wine 1.4 with no problems, and it works fine with the English Language. However, I need to use it to work with Arabic and Hebrew, and it doesn't work when I switch to a Hebrew or Arabic keyboard. The typing gets reversed.

I saw an earlier post for something similar, but it is closed and I think it was for the earlier Wine 1.3. Supposedly Wine 1.4 has added RTL -- is there a way to get it working?
