When using ABAQUS 6.14 (but also ABAQUS 2018) on ubuntu 18.04 everything seems to work fine except the termination of the standard process (the process started when performing an implicit analysis -- if you are not familiar with this it doesn't matter).

The analysis indeed works as one can also see in a log file (the .sta file, for those who are familiar with abaqus) the message THE ANALYSIS HAS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY. The output database contains the analysis results. However, after the analysis has been completed, the process standard remains in a sleeping status using 0% CPU and keeping the same amount of RAM as when it was running.

Like if the two processes were in a deadlock state. Moreover, the commands

and

do give an empty output. The dirs /proc/7002 and /proc/7010 do not exist.

Has someone a good idea how to solve this? Or in which direction should I investigate further.

I recently upgraded to ubuntu 18.04 and noticed a bad behavior of gnome's activities overview:

I have two monitors and work with the option "Workspaces span displays" enabled. In the gnome configuration of ubuntu, however, when I open the activities overview I see all opened windows in every workspace in the secondary display.

Let's say I have firefox open on the secondary display in workspace 1. If I open activities overview in workspace 3 I see this firefox window, although I've nothing open in WS 3.

I've been using ubuntu gnome since its first release and never had such problem.

Is there an additional option to toggle, or shall I submit a bug report?

After having used ubuntu gnome for quite a long time (since its launch), I decided to try out the new ubuntu 17.10.

One thing hurted me: the background of the login screen (how can you make it so awful?). I therefore decided to change it by editing the file /etc/alternatives/gdm3.css as follows:

Since I have 2 monitors, I need to repeat it. The output is

I therefore tried by adding

  background-position: left -50%;

or

but did not succeed. How can I set its position, s.t. it will work with one as well as with two monitors?

On a small server, I would like to launch a selenium webdriver and a python script which will use the selenium webdriver consecutively at boot, without waiting the end of the other (of course).

I therefore added the following lines to my /etc/anacrontab:

By doing this, the two processes are however terminated:

The start_driver.sh consists in:

cd $dir # needed in order to have log saved there...
nohup java -jar selenium-server-standalone-3.4.0.jar &

Basically, I have to start the selenium webdriver, wait until it is ready and then run the python script for the whole day.

If I run the command I put in the anacrontab from terminal it just works fine.

Before installing Ubuntu gnome 17.04 on a MacBook Pro (mid 2012), I wanted to try the live version from a USB stick.

The problem here is that after the system​ loads, I just see the default gnome wallpaper, without the top bar or anything else. Also, if I press I don't see the window modifier with all the apps, but rather only the vignetted background image. If I suspend the laptop by pressing the power button and resume it, I see the lock screen without date and time.

Loading the system with nomodeset option also seems not to solve anything, as the system will then hang during boot.

What can I do?

When I launch Abaqus CAE (actually the GUI part of abaqus) I get following error:

This error appears pretty much the same as the error described here. In fact, if I run glxinfo -i I also get an error:

However, the solution proposed in that website:

Simply add +iglx to the line: xserver-command=X -core +iglx in /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-xserver-command.conf

does not work for me. Also launching with -mesa flag or with XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 abaqus cae -mesa does not work.

Do you have any idea about this issue? I run ubuntu 16.04.02 64bit on a Desktop PC with nvidia Quadro K420 with 375.39 driver. I just updated the driver from the tested 367 to check if the problem was solved, but no.

I did a clean install of ubuntu gnome 16.04 on my lenovo w520 (without formatting the home partition; before I had ubuntu gnome 15.10). My laptop comes (sadly - since I have always had troubles with it) with an nvidia quadro 2000M (with optimus support) installed on it. Under 15.10 all worked fine. Now, when I install the nvidia proprietary driver (nvidia-361) the laptop screen isn't detected. If I plug in the external monitor, this is working fine, but the laptop screen never works. Does someone have an idea? I already tried to reconfigure xorg, I deleted the ~/.config/monitors.xml file. What else could it be? Could it be that some configuration is remained from the older installation in the home directory?

Following this guide and many others I'm trying to getting my ThinkPad w520 with ubuntu gnome 14.04.3 (64bit) work with bumblebee. I have however a strange problem, when I try to build the intel-virtual-output from the xf86-video-intel I don't get the binary intel-virtual-output in the folder tools.

Do someone know why?

According to this bug report, intel-virtual-output encounter some difficulties with xorg-server version 1.17.1:

david@david-ubuntu:~$ intel-virtual-output

      after 20 requests (20 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

As reported by a user, downgrading to version 1.16 would solve the problem. How can I safely downgrade the xorg package?
