I created a custom desktop file and placed it in ~/.local/share/applications but it doesn't appear when I show all applications, I then tried to put it in /usr/share/applications to no avail.

I can still run it by double click in Ubuntu 18.10, but I can't in Kubuntu 18.10 with the same file (it returned error about invalid desktop file or malformatted).

There's something so wrong here, because I did the same thing hundreds of time before in the previous versions and never did I encouter this problem.

May anyone know anything about this?

Edit: I don't know why but after restarting, I can't open it in Ubuntu anymore. It says There was an error launching the application. In Kubuntu, it returns

KDEInit could not launch 'spyder3': Could not open library 'libkdeinit5_spyder3'. Cannot load library libkdeinit5_spyder3: (libkdeinit5_spyder3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

Can someone tell me the differences between the two types of selections in the pictures below (half square and full square)?

I fiddle with shortcuts in Kubuntu and stumble on this option. Can someone tell me what is this Launch (C) key?

I've just tried out Kubuntu 18.04 and somehow I cannot start Goldendict to system tray on start up. It's so weird because when I run goldendict in terminal or from dash, it starts to system tray without problem. But only on start up it shows the whole window with a very long number (screenshot below).

When I installed Ubuntu 17.10, I noticed that the volume icon in Rhythmbox was gone:

But then I found this picture while wandering on the internet and I thought that maybe I'm the only one who has this problem since no one had brought it up.

So I just removed rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-toolbar as a workaround solution.

But yesterday, I installed Ubuntu 17.10 for my friend and he had the exact same problem as I did.

So, is there any way for me to retrieve the missing volume icon?

I'm using ubuntu-gnome 17.04

I know how to make VLC play multiple videos simultaneously by unchecking the 'Allow only one instance' option. It works fine in Windows and normal Ubuntu but there seem to be some problem with ubuntu-gnome, I also unchecked 'Use only one instance when started from file manager' but it still doesn't work. Anyone knows how to fix?

This is my .desktop file that I created. But in dash, it shows a default icon instead of my png image. I'm sure the path is correct. Any idea?
