I just installed Kubuntu 20.04 and OBS,but NVENC doesn't seem to work for some reason even though I have nvidia-driver-390 installed and configured via System Settings.

Nothing I seem to do works, what should I do to remove the PPA?

I'm using the latest version of Virtualbox to install Manjaro.

Everything works ok at first and I install Manjaro from the installer to the virtual machine.

But when I go to boot it (Choose Boot Majaro on (hd0, something_here) I only ever get a black screen.

Virtualization is enabled as confirmed by the BIOS.

I have a nearly fresh install of Kubuntu 19.10 and encrypted my home folder using ecryptfs-migrate-home using the typical method.

This had led to an issue where, when I suspend my computer by closing the laptop lid, the computer suspends initially, then wakes back up at the log in screen and won't suspend without me hitting sleep in the log in screen.

What should I do to resolve this issue? I would usually use ubuntu-bug but I don't know what package to file a bug against.

EDIT 0: The swapfile doesn't exist (I think) because I'm using BTRFS as a filesystem. This is the swapfile entry in fstab:

I have OBS installed via command line and am trying to crop a certain regions of my screen.

Usually this is accomplished via alt + tugging one of the red handle bars, but this doesn't work for some reason.

Instead, it wants to move the entire window.

I'm following the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZx9y6xcPXI tutorial.

How can I crop the screen in the same way that he does?

When I try to play video shot from my phone in 4K, the player just stops at one of the first frames.

My Samsung Note 9 Rear Camera shoots in 16:9 UHD at 60FPS and uses the HEVC codec.

When I transfer it to my computer the first few frames play and then the video stream freezes but the track counter keeps going.

Hardware Decoding is set to automatic.

My hardware specs on my computer are decent, so I would expect to be able to run UHD at 60FPS.

Recently, I've encountered a bug where the desktop freezes.

The main suspect (From top and iotop) is a kworker: .

The system starts normally, than completely freezes shortly thereafter (Like < 1 minute) every time.

I'm saving the @ directory on my hard drive just in case someone wants to check it out later, but I'm restoring from a backup for now to restore functionality.

The thing is that this happened to me previously, and I had to restore the @ directory before.

I figured that it was some weird one off thing, but it's back again. So this is something more serious.

Has this bug been reported before? Is there a fix/workaround for it? It doesn't appear to be kernel related because I used the new 15.0.0-13 kernal provided by the new release and the old 4.15 kernel that I used in 18.04 before the upgrade.

I've tried to isolate the source of the error further. I've isolated it to my hard drive configuration. My HP ENVY 17 has two hard drive bays and I'm using both of them. My OS is on the SSD (500GB Samsung 860 EVO) and the other is an OEM 1TB traditional HDD.

From my post on HP forums asking for more information:

When I powered off, I discovered that I couldn't use the linux live USBs (Basically another OS that you can do maintaince for your everyday OS that resides on a USB). They would just load forever.

I made a few posts online to try and diagnose the issue and was recommended to check the ribbon cables.

My OS resides on the SSD, and I lifted the connectors and pulled out the ribbons and re-placed them back in position.

No luck, but then I tried pulling out the SSD and letting GRUB (The Grand Unified Bootloader) try and boot from the USB now.

This was effective, but I did more testing. I tried putting in the SSD and pulling out the traditional HDD. This did not work. I tried using the SSD but with the other HDD connector on the motherboard, no dice. I retried various configurations of HDD and connector matching hoping to get something to work, but it seems that every time the SSD is in a connector, the live USB's will not boot and that every time the SSD is not in one of the connectors, the USBs will boot.

The strange thing is that this SSD is not new. I've been using it for a while (2-3 Months) with no issues. Then I did the upgrade from Kubuntu 18.04 to 19.04 and everything went fine. Then the next week everything is unbootable. I didn't even take the computer with me anywhere or open it up. Just software changes. I didn't touch the BIOS at all in this time period.

But the SSD isn't the end of the story. If the SSD was the problem, then wouldn't this have been a binary "It just doesn't work for X reason"?

Why was it working for a few months and then suddenly it just kicks the bucket? Why can't I boot from a live USB when it's connected?

The most proximal cause of this (The only change I made to the system, software or otherwise) is the upgrade from 18.04 -> 19.04.

How does a software upgrade trigger a hardware fault (Assuming this is the cause), and can it be compensated for?

EDIT 1:

I removed the SSD and attached it using a USB cable. The filesystem was unmountable. I tried using btrfs recover, but it wasn't worth it as I had a backup the day before. I tried it anyway initially and discovered that every folder from @home was missing except for the Desktop.

I don't know why this happened, but after totally formatting the drive using btrfs, and installing a fresh Kubuntu 19.04, hopefully things will be better. The SMART test and long form SMART tests both passed, and I didn't see any errors.

I also confirmed that the SSD will boot again (Using the fresh Kubuntu 19.04) while using the ribbon cable internally. I think that the no-boot incident was due to the damaged nature of the filesystem on the SSD, although I don't know why this negatively effected the ability to boot a live USB.

I just finished installing the new Ubuntu 19.04 Server on my downstairs server, but it doesn't appear to have an internet connection despite being wired to the router using a cat-6 cable.

All pings fail, including ping 8.8.8.8 with the same error message. I've tried using ifconfig to set the state to up, but this didn't help.

ip a reveals that the server doesn't seem to have an IP address.

I just upgraded from 17.04 to 19.04 and had a bit of encrypted data that I didn't want getting stolen if the device was ever taken.

I did a fresh install of 19.04 and have a full backup of the entire disk. I can't figure out how to restore my vault from the backup though. It didn't seem to transfer over and appears as an empty folder in /media/externaldrive/backup/sarah/vaults/myvvault

How can I import it to the new OS?

I'm interested in moving my Kubuntu 18.04.02 partitions to my new SSD.

I've done the required reading (Moving to an SSD), but am uncertain about moving the EFI partition.

I'm aware that an EFI partition can be created using gparted, and have already allocated 500MiB for it, but haven't set the flags yet for it on my SSD.

I have a standard install, but my SSD is 500GiB smaller than my original drive, so, as far as I know, I can't use clonezila to transfer everything over. This isn't so much of a problem for me because I use BTRFS backups and have simply sent all the data for the subvolumes over.

Can I simply delete the EFI partition and wipe /dev/sda and set the boot and EFI flags on /dev/sdc1 (My new EFI partition on SSD) and run boot-repair, or do the typical grub-repair procedure, or is there more complexity here?

I've just never messed around with the EFI partitions and don't want to mess up my system for a few days.

I have an issue very similar to (Ubuntu 17.10 Drivers Not Found/Working Properly?), but this was done on a fresh install of Kubuntu 18.04. This desktop doesn't have an internal Wi-Fi card and I'm currently using an old wi-fi module to get an internet connection there. The main issue with the old wi-fi dongle is that it doesn't have the proper antenna to provide adequate wi-fi connectivity, as this desktop is in a remote location where ethernet cords cannot easily reach, and where wi-fi signals are faint at best.

I used the new wi-fi antenna, which is the source of the trouble, first, and folowed the steps layed out in (Ubuntu 17.10 Drivers Not Found/Working Properly?) to try and get it to work. It didn't.

I made sure to not have the old wi-fi antenna in the USB slot while I was following the commands and only re-inserted it after completing all command and restarting the system and realizing that the steps were unsuccessful in being able to restore the USB antenna-driver functionality.

The New USB Antenna is the exact same as the one listed in (Ubuntu 17.10 Drivers Not Found/Working Properly?)

When I try to execute the command kdesu dolphin or kdesudo dolphin nothing happens. I thought that this was the proper way to elevate graphical applications to temporary root privileges.

Am I doing something wrong? How can I elevate graphical application to super user level permissions?

I just performed a fresh install of Kubuntu 18.04, and installed Aptik from the ppa shown in the output of apt policy aptik. The thing is that Aptik is not found when searching using the application launcher. Just nothing comes up. Given that the Aptik GUI is dependent on this mechanism, how can I resolve this or get the Aptik GUI back?

I'm having some sound issues, and I believe that reinstalling or resetting my sound drivers or sound settings may solve this issue. How can I do this? This is my list of playback devices from aplay -l

I recently upgraded from Kubuntu 17.04 -> 17.10 using the upgrade tool. All of my programs/settings/personalization is ok, but many of the drivers are either missing or nonfunctional. This includes sound (Both Integrated Speakers, USB Speakers, and Bluetooth Speakers) Additionally my USB Bluetooth adapter may be malfunctioning due to the driver(No Sound Upon 17.10 Upgrade).

This also includes my USB Wi-Fi adapter as well. The internal Wi-Fi card may still be disabled because I had to to enable the external USB one (Which has a higher range than my internal antenna. Basically all the steps we did to enable the USB antenna (Wireless antenna does not appear despite its driver being installed)

I should note that graphics drivers appear to be fine (At least from the System Settings Dash anyway.... I'm using an Nvidia graphics driver and all appears to be well on that frontier)

I'm still new to the upgrade, if I find anything else that broke, I'll post it.

Edit 0: I should note that the Wired connection that I'm using is ok, and that I can connect to the network from there, and that's how I'm making posts. Seeing a similar question to the Wi-Fi issue I went to (No internet after upgrade to 17.10) and they linked me to (https://askubuntu.com/a/907249/645874) I attempted the fix and got a green status. The issue persists, although, granted I haven't had time to restart the system yet.

I recently installed the unity-desktop not knowing that it would change my login manager, and that KDE & Unity generally don't play well together. How can I restore the default KDE login manager for Kubuntu 17.04? I believe that it is SDDM, but I'm not sure.

I just installed the Ubuntu desktop environment (Unity), and now I'm getting Ubuntu style notifications in KDE. I don't really like this in Plasma, so how can I revert to the Kubuntu style notifications without uninstalling Unity?

How can I get Audacity to work with Opus files? Is there a plugin I can get?

I've heard that I can point Audacity to a framework for encoding/decoding and delegate the work to the framework, since Audacity doesn't support .opus yet.

I have a USB antenna that I got here on Amazon, and unlike in How do I install a Realtek Wireless-N USB Adapter on my Linux OS laptop it doesn't appear that the driver is in the driver tree. Either that or I haven't figured out how to enable the antenna. I'm using a laptop, which has an integrated Wi-Fi connector, but I wanted a better external one. I'm not exactly sure how this works with the wi-fi button on the laptop. I tried installing the default driver, but the installation fails stating that the kernel version isn't supported (It only works on version 3.14), but my Ubuntu version is 16.04, running the default kernel 4.4.0-79-generic, with the KDE environment. How can I enable the USB antenna?

I've noticed that Ubuntu 16.04 running KDE's Dolphin file manager is not able to preview audio thumbnails for some reason. I'm not certain why, and I've checked the Configure Dolphin -> General -> Previews -> File Types, and Audio is not listed as a supported type (It doesn't appear at all) Is there some way I can fix this? I interact with audio and am religious about tagging them with pictures and it kind of sucks not being able to see the thumbnails.

Note: I've seen https://www.linux-apps.com/content/show.php?content=114885, but a lot of people were saying that it didn't work, and it doesn't appear to be the same version of KDE that I'm running.
