I'm trying to upgrade from Ubuntu 19.04 to 19.10 without avail.

do-release-upgrade works up until the fetch of new packages. Then the terminal output gives:

This output is the same for update-manager -d does not work (stucks at download for package 3, but same error output as do-release-upgrade)

I've search for a while without any avail. I do not have docker installed.

For every package that should be upgraded.

I have absolutaley no idea whats wrong.. I've tried to remove all packages in /var/cache/apt/archives/partial I've tried to change deb servers.

apt update and reinstall of disco packages still work. apt clean has no affect.

If of interest, I am unable to login to the desktop using GDM and instead I have to startx from tty2.

I got fail2ban and logwatch running on my server. Each day I have a few IP:s that's been probing my server and also a few "Attempts to use known hacks", as it states in the daily mail.

I would like to block these IP:s using the knowledge of logwatch, since it apparently knows what "known hacks" are. By looking trough the apache access logs I don't quite understand what logwatch refers to.

As I said, fail2ban is installed and uses UFW as block action. Is there somehow possible to block these IP:s that are recognized by logwatch? fail2ban doesn't seem to block them.

I got an reoccuring issue with a few remote backup machines I got. I have a few cron jobs that runs a backup schedule but after a while they stop working. I quickly found that even simple pings wont work; I get:

ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted

This from the main server to a backup host. Ping from a backup host to the main server simply does nothing really. 100% package loss.

The first times this occured I resolved it my getting new IP's or rerouting through another network inteface, but after a while the same issue founds it's way back.

Once I did a flush of the iptables, and that did the trick - but since I locked myself out that time and had to physically connect to the server and add new routing I'd rather not do that again. Rather I would like to find out why this is happening and looking for a more suitable and sustainable resolution.

I'm using a few security measures such as denyhosts and fail2ban, which I guess could be accounted for this issues. But where do I start to look?

Neither "iptables -L OUTPUT" nor "iptables -L INPUT" presents any detail in denied hostnames.

So I did something stupid while trying to solve my another issue by redoing (I thought) what I had done[1].

I ran the following command, think the number what the volume amount that I wanted to remove, not the size that was going to be set for the LVM: sudo lvreduce -L 1,8T /dev/server-vg/root

So now all the stuff on the other part of the LVM is gone - like many commands since the LVM was on top of a RAID0.

Is there any way of readding that part that I removed? Undoing what I just did?

I have backup, but I'd rather see if this is possible to do first.

I have tried to reset the size to the size that ought to be before I added the third disk (see [1]):

**sudo lvresize -L 3,7T /dev/server-vg/root**

And also tried to just use all that is available:

**sudo lvextend -l +100%FREE /dev/server-vg/root**

Both gives me: Command failed with status code 5.

1: Extend LUKS with physical drive. Unsure if new drive encrypts files

I installed the Intel Graphics Update software to just give it a go, unfortunately I've had some issues since, and now I am currently to bring back the system to it's previous working state. The issues are:

1. Unable to input passphrase for LUKS encryption at splash - I need to remove "splash" from the boot options in Grub2.

2. The system are unable to wake up after suspend. Instead the screen is black and the system seem to be unable to take inputs - meaning that Ctrl+Alt+F* does not work. I have to do a hard reset of the system.

3. Also Compiz (Unity) is acting odd. Unable to set scale for menus and such, and my workspaces are gone. Both are activated, but does not work.

I have removed the repository, uninstalled the packages and also did this: How to safely remove proprietary Intel driver.

I don't know what more to do, but it still doesn't work to boot with splash, or to suspend the laptop any more.

In system details, graphics now say: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 256 bits)

I've been using two drives in RAID0 for a while and recently switched to a new PC setup. It worked as it should at the beginning but after a reboot a few months ago I noticed that one of the drives started to make some kind of noise: a short beep followed by a spin-up.

Checking the logs, as well as start up output, I saw that the noise was followed by a few lines of error codes. The server however came up, but made that beep noise a few times a day. Untill yesterday, when both drives started acting like this, making the noise, creating the output below. I could no longer get the server back up.

Today I put together the old PC build and plugged the drives in - no issues at all. Also other drives that also works as they should in other computers acts like these two in the RAID as well. Why is that?

So the question here is: Why does my drive work on the old setup but not on the new? (I've used the drives on both system but when I switched to the new setup I did a complete re-install of Ubuntu server 16.04.1 LTS)

The drive is, as I said, in (software) RAID0, but also a LVM LUKS group on that RAID.

I believe there's something about the motherboard doing this so here they are:

• Old build: MSI P35 Platinum
• New build: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0

Both motherboards has the latest BIOS update.

Just got my first Ubuntu Snappy running on a Raspberry Pi 2 and would very much like to enjoy Let's encrypt on it. I got it working on my other web server, but feel that this might not apply on Snappy Core, right?

For example, Let's Encrypt provides a Python script for install of the certificates, but on Snappy the same files does not apply as normal about Apache2 and stuff, right?

Where to start.

I'm about to get my hands on a Pioneer Raspberry Pi drive running Owncloud 9 on Ubuntu Snappy 16.04. I want to move my old owncloud instance to this new device, I just don't know how.

Currently I'm running Ubuntu Server 15.04 on an old PC. Having a few hundred GB of files in there. Now I want to move all of it to the new Raspberry Pi based Ubuntu Snappy system. All files and configuration.

I have no experience with Ubuntu Snappy - yet - but from what I've understood about the new packaging paradigm I might come into trouble about an otherwise trivial migration of data.

Do I still access to mysql so that I can import the old db, as well some kind of access to be able to migrate the old files? Snappy seem to have SSH, so rsync is there, but is there something that I need to think about otherwise about the file migration?

I would like to extend the storage capacity on my Ubuntu server by adding more drives.

I'm currently using LVM+LUKS on my server and I'm having some difficulty understanding how I may add new drives to the existing LVM volume without having to re-install the whole system. From what I understand that's the reason of using LVM - extending the storage capacity on the fly -pretty much.

But how do I do this if the volume also in encrypted? Is it even possible since, from what I understand, the LUKS actually pretty static from the initial capacity?

I have two drives set up as a software RAID 0 that I'd like to use in the current running system volume, using only one additions disk.

I'm developing a new app that I need to use the SystemSettings module for (I need to get the device serial, IMEI and stuff). When looking for a way to get these numbers I came across Ubuntu System Settings (for the mobile device) which uses this module and shows both serial and IMEI.

When I added the SystemSettings 1.0 module and submodules they are not installed on my computer. So I tried running it on a device, because they should be installed there, since the system settings app shows these numbers, right? Wrong. It does not work.

So my question is: How do I install and use the SystemSettings module used here: https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~system-settings-touch/ubuntu-system-settings/trunk/view/head:/plugins/about/PageComponent.qml

Since yesterday I'm unable to start QtCreator. Trying to start QtCreator from terminal gives me this error message, which I haven't found anything on:

qtcreator: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so: undefined symbol: _ZN15QPlatformWindow17formatWindowTitleERK7QStringS2_

Any ideas what this is about?

I'm creating a music app using QML and it uses around five tabs, each using a toolbar. The toolbar should look the same, so instead of having the exact same code for each tab, I wanted to re-use the code of only one toolbar for each of the tabs.

I tried using an external .qml file with only the Toolbar code, but it did not work.

How do I re use the same code for the toolbar, instead of copy paste the same code multiple times in the code file?

I'm working on the Music app and I need to know how to get the user name and/or home dir of the users. I've googled around for a while but can only find the variables for C++ or BASH.

How do I get the user name or his/her home dir?

My app uses tabs, and one of them shows a web page using WebView. Now, I have a toolbar with one action button that I want to show a Dialog - but it's no go.

Instead I get this error message when pressing the action button:

Showing in a tab whitout a WebView works fint with the same Component and Dialog. Why does it not work, and what should I do to make it possible? I'd really want this dialog there.

I've been working on my msm touch app and got to a point were I get the needed info from an XML file, but it is unthemed, and not as good looking as other "direct" text is. Its black and further to the left.

This is my code to show the needed info:

SO. WHy is the text not like the rest, and how do I fix it?

I want to run a system command from inside my application. It's suppose to run a command on a remote server using SSH. But that's not really the point. The point is that I don't know how to run any kind of command from the app. I asked in the mail list and they referred me to build a QML extension using C++. But I don't know C++ and it seems that I have to learn so much only to run a simple command.

In Python (as in PHP) it's easy to run a system command. Is there any other way of doing it in my Touch app, or is there someone that could help me even more? Or perhaps have a better solution to my problem?
