I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and I can't install from new PPA's. It gives me a 404 error every time I try to update the package lists.

I did not re-enable repositories after a distro upgrade, I did not incorrectly type the repo name, and the repository obviously exists at http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome-shell-extensions/ppa/ubuntu/

How do I fix this?

I have several files in the same folder that have one element in common in the names. How do I rename the files so that the common element in the names is deleted?

I decided to switch over to Kubuntu for a while, and I backed up my documents on a NAS connected to my local network. I was able to see it and access it in nautilus, but when I try to access it in dolphin, I see this:

Double-clicking on any of the four options does nothing, as if I didn't double-click. How do I access my files?

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS and whenever I'm logged in, I get this window:

I type in my password, and it disappears and comes back a second later. After ten attempts at typing in my password, it finally goes away. I tried pressing cancel, but its the same result. I wouldn't mind so much if it didn't take away focus from other windows. When I open Chrome, I am typing a URL to visit, and the "Unlock Keyring" window pops up again and won't let me do anything until I manage to get rid of it. How can I keep this thing away?

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 on my laptop, and it has an Intel graphics card. I realized my drivers were out of date, so I went to https://01.org/linuxgraphics/ and downloaded intel-graphics-update-tool_2.0.2_amd64.deb and installed it via dpkg. When I run the tool however, it works fine until it comes to the point where it installs the updates. It gives this error:

How do I install and run asciiquarium in Ubuntu? It seems kind of complicated, and I don't know how to compile source code.

I am running Ubuntu 16.04, and I had to reinstall the entire OS because of glitches. I tried to restore my home folder from the backup I made, but it says

Restore Failed.  File /duplicity-full.20170425T141908Z.vol71.difftar.gpg does not exist.

And then it just stops the entire restoral. How do I fix this?

I am running Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS on an iMac. I am the administrator of six users, and none of them can login with a password. Only the administrators with sudo privs can use a password. When you try to change the password through Settings > Users and Groups, it successfully changes the password, but when you log out and try to log in again, it doesn't ask for a password and just logs in when you click the user name. This is also the case when I use the passwd command through the terminal.

How do I fix this?

I need to watch a DVD for school, but when I try to watch it in VLC, I get this error:

I already know about DRM and what it is, but I don't know how to get around it.

I also already have all of the usual codecs, including libdvdnav4, libdvdread4, gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad, gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly, dvdcss2, ubuntu-restricted-extras and libdvd-pkg.

I also have regionset installed just in case I need to use it for some reason.

How do I play my DVD???

I know I can just hit CTRL+H to hide the hidden files, but how do I make them visible by default?

I use Ubuntu 16.04.

Before I start, let me just be clear, I am NOT asking how to add an icon. When I go to the Dash, and right click on an application, it says "No image available."

I thought it was awesome that Ubuntu 16.04 shipped with gnome-calendar, but I noticed that holidays were not included. I also noticed that there is an option to sync the calendar with an online one, how do I do this? I don't know of any online calendars I could use.

I have a Moto X First Gen and I want to use Ubuntu on it. I have already unlocked the bootloader, but I can't figure out how to do the rest. I also have all of the adb and fastboot stuff installed on my laptop. I followed the instructions here

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 and Unity 7.4.0 and have been messing around with the screensavers and lock screens. After trying out xscreensaver and a few others, I tried to go back to the default because I decided that that one looked better than all the others, but I couldn't find it. Most people say that gnome-screensaver is the default for Xenial. I don't think that's right because when my screen is locked with gnome-screensaver, it looks nothing like it did before. It shows an ugly white box with buttons that say Switch User and Unlock and asks for my password. How do I revert back to the default lock screen?
