I have a simple echo print out that I've added to my .bashrc:

This prints a message to terminal, but I want it look as though it's being typed, with a consistent delay between characters.

When I run diff on two directories ex: $ diff Linux1 Linux2
The output being $ Only in Linux2: COMPLETELYDIFFERENT22.txt
I want to the copy that file(not just the output) into a new directory, created in the same command. I have seen this question many times, but none of the answers work! I'm sure the answer is frustratingly simple, but I just cant seem to find it.
I'm currently messing around creating LVMs on an external drive and think I may have deleted something by mistake!
When I run pvcreate /dev/sdc1 to create my physical volume, I get this message:
WARNING: Device for PV 0JAtDx-VWuk-Xv7E-SVHl-saUz-5JFI-IQ4Jq6 not found or rejected by a filter.
Yet pv is still created?
Any ideas?
I'm not really how to ask this question the right way without being long winded, but will do my best! I need a script I'm writing to run pidstat -V inside of it and then to capture the output from it and use it to continue the script! I have tried so many variations, the only way I get no error readout is as follows
#!/usr/bin/perl
use strict;
use warnings;
my $cmd = "pidstat -V";
my @output = `$cmd`;
chomp @output;
if (@output eq 'sysstat version 11.2.0 (C) Sebastien Godard (sysstat <at> orange.fr)') {
etc etc etc.
The rest of the script runs fine when I use STDIN and the user defines their pidstat version, but when I use the above I get no errors and just a new line! I have come across different pidstat versions which give different readouts so have written my script to fit around this! I know I'm missing something but not sure what.
I have a simple awk and sed command that I want to write into a perl script or alternatively use the perl equivalent? Any pointers would be appreciated

I hope I phrase this question correctly.
I want to write pidstat into a perl script so that when a user runs it he/she is asked for a PID the script then runs pidstat with that specific PID and returns the result? I know how to request the user for a pid and then set the script to read the STDIN, but i'm stuck on how to call on pidstat in perl!! Driving me nuts! Please help and be gentle I'm only little!
I'm messing around with scripting, I am able to create a script which when run prompts me for a name for a new dir, creates it then creates several files, echoes lines out, then deletes it all.
What I would like to do is morph it slightly so it creates and names the directory all by itself!
Seems a pointless exercise I know, but messing around with it is the best way I learn.
Here is my current script:

I'm using the following command to gather the information of child-PID:
top -b -n1 -p 719011,719012,719013,719014,719015,719016,719017 | sed -e 's/USER/----/' -e 's/root/----/' -e 's/PR/--/' -e 's/20/--/' -e 's/VIRT/----/' -e 's/538m/----/' -e 's/RES/---/' -e 's/12m/---/' -e 's/SHR/---/' -e 's/1348/----/' -e 's/NI/--/' -e 's/S/-/' | tail -9 > file1
It works just fine, but is a little long winded! I want to know if there is anyway to gather the information just by using the pPID? Thus saving having to type every child process ID. I don't want the full answer just a pointer in the right direction so I can figure it out myself!
Okay, so I have tidied up the command to:
ps -o pid= --ppid 719008 | top -b -n4 | awk '{print $1,$9,$10,$12}' | tail -9 > file
But instead of giving the output for the child processes I get the output for every process on the system! What am I missing?

Is it possible to achieve the above result from top just by issuing an accumulation of commands piped together then saving to a file?
I have tried various ways but all give messy results.
Is there anyway of getting this information only using the pPID? This will then save having to write every child-PID in the command!
I want to add my own header to the print out from this command and save to a file:

I'm trying to run very simple bash scripts and cron jobs!
I'm trying to get cron to run the following bash script on a daily basis:
#!/bin/bash
echo "Hello James how is your day going"
I can run the script from the command line no problem, but cron won't? My Cron job is set up as such:
0 15 * * * /tmp/myjob.sh
What am I missing?
