I've recently discovered this feature, and I love it; however, the created list is sorted by modification date, rather then name. Looking at nautilus' settings in dconf (~ / list-view / default-column-order), sorting by name should be the default.
I did come across this post saying that this feature as whole wasn't ready for the switch from GTK3 - GTK4, perhaps this is related?

I have forgotten my password, so I am trying to reset it in recovery mode. When I drop down to shell through the recovery mode menu, I make the system read/write:
mount -o remount,rw /
then, when I type and enter the command:
root@computer:~# passwd [User name]
Nothing happens except passwd outputting its options:
Usage: passwd [options] [LOGIN]
#list of passwd options...
There is a space in the user name, as shown. Will that have any effect on passwd's functionality?
Should I use
chmod 640 /etc/shadow
that I found here, even though I am not getting the same error?
sudo pwck showed many things (user avahi, user kernoops, etc.) all saying password change in the future. I have used the command passwd -e User name (force expire) in the past in hopes that it would prompt me to enter a new password when I rebooted but that didn't do anything again.

I need to install a Wi-Fi driver in a live session, but it does not come with "make".
How can I install make so I can install the driver, without internet?
I accidentally clicked "repair GRUB", now my keyboard doesn't work until after the boot sequence.
I'm fairly certain there was a backup made (didn't change any of the settings, and new files were created), but I can't find the right instructions for what I need to do.
How do I restore the backup made by boot-repair?
I'm trying to restore my system to before a borked upgrade. There is a fresh install of 18.04 Desktop on the drive now, and I'm trying to restore my settings and such using Deja Dup from a live session.

*I just tried using an older restore point, but got the same error. Next I will try to use the "ignore errors" command I seen on another post but lost the bookmark. Will update once I find it again.
**This post tells of a command --ignore-errors that's used in the command line. Now to figure out how to use Deja Dup via the terminal.
***This post shows the same error I'm having now after I learned the command lines for duplicity, and it's from 2017... The issue has to do with Python 2.7. It throws an error when it attempts to decode utf8 to ASCII. There was only one workaround that was renaming files.
I'm working with Duplicity version 0.7.17, and apparently this was fixed after 0.7.12.
Currently trying the command LC_ALL=C found in the second link, which apparently does a thing. We'll see what it is soon I hope.
Is there any way to completely exclude python files from being restored? [There is not.]
****I am now using the most up to date version of duplicity (0.8.20), the version that comes packed with Ubuntu was of course out of date... Still getting the error though.
I now think the error is because of a single file in my backup that uses an empty character as it's name. The file is in my desktop, so maybe I can exclude everything in my desktop folder? Or perhaps exclude Python 2.7 itself? Though that might introduce other errors...

Final Update
A simple fix! For some reason, the Nvidia drivers didn't install.
This answer to this question said to use:
sudo ubuntu-drivers install
Which worked great. Now I'm in the desktop environment!
Now to restore my old settings with Deja Dup.
As the title says I borked an upgrade. It paused for a moment to ask me something about gnome settings, and I pressed "D" for details, and then ctrl+c to try and get out of the output it gave.
Now I cannot open a terminal, nor can I shutdown through the GUI. Firefox is working fin though obviously. Alt+F2 also works, or at least the command window pops up
*What Should I do to keep my system working, and to start up the upgrade again?
**In my haste I forgot that I have a recent back to restore to and do the upgrade again after restore. I will try that route and update here for posterity.
Final Update
Thanks for the help everyone. I've decided to call in the firing squad.
I formatted the drive with my laptop, and then attempted a fresh install of 18.04 so that I could recover my settings and documents with the Deja Dup backup I made before starting the upgrade.
This introduced another error where I'm stuck in TTY after boot. There will be yet another post about that. Please follow me on this cortisol-fueled adventure of the failed upgrade.

I've been trying to boot into a live session so I can use gparted to upgrade to a larger SSD, but I've only been able to get into it once. I let it suspend by accident that one time and I wasn't able to get back into it. After rebooting manually, my display ports weren't working, so I switched both inputs to HDMI. Now every time I try to get into a live session, either of my monitors display the message "Mode Unsupported". I can only get as far as "Try ubuntu before installing" after which the screens go black, or just the one screen since I tried it with just one of two plugged in.
I also have to boot into the USB through UEFI which might cause issues? Setting the boot sequence to USB first in Legacy BIOS doesn't work.
Did something break in the grub when I rebooted that one time? I've tried a number of times, and after each failed attempt my monitors (dual screen) revert to "stock" settings, but regain my custom settings once logged in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I want to copy this code into /etc/udev/rules.d/. At first I tried to drag a text file named 50-ds4drv.rules into it, but lo, I was not allowed, obvious in hindsight.

As I'm writing this on Firefox, the purple border is not there. Only Firefox does not show the border, as far as I'm aware.
The cursor still appears in it, but the wallpaper doesn't cover it, and appears to be exactly 2 pixels wide.
I first noticed when I shifted 'focus' from a full screen game, to just the desktop using the super key.
I have a 1080Ti and I am using the proprietary Nvidia driver, 430.

I've been trying to get PCSX2 to work (PS2 emulator) and when I load an ISO it crashes giving out the error in the title.

I think I am supposed to edit a configuration file for pulseaudio to increase the buffer size, but I can only find the examples for other distros.
I have set my keyboard to Dvorak system wide, but it isn't used for the login screen forcing me to use an on-screen keyboard.
I do have the keyboard settings menu where it should be, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
I had just solved a similiar issue with my screen settings being the wrong way by copying my user settings into the light.dm folder (sudo cp ~/.config/monitors.xml /var/lib/lightdm/.config/), can I do something similiar, but with the keyboard settings instead?

Right now I have no sound, or access to anything in the System Settings GUI.
I've tried everything to get at least the sound working, but nothing works.
