Normally in whatever editor:
Ctrl+Shift+left is used to select the word to the left of cursor
Ctrl+Shift+right is used to select the word to the right of cursor

Suddenly (after testing many keyboard shortcuts), it stopped working, even in file manager windows, terminals, browsers address bar, etc.

Probably after setting a keyboard shortcut using the combination ctrl+shift+arrow the system shortcut to select text is deleted even after removing the shortcut tested.

For example, lets say my cursor is here:

some exampl|e text

I want to be able to highlight "exampl" when I press Ctrl+Shift+left

But when I press the combination nothing happens.

Where can I change this type of shortcut?
In system keyboard options there is no shortcut for text selection.

I'm using Mate desktop
Is there a feature to switch workspaces like changing desktop when using two monitors? (in this case I want using one monitor)
When I have two monitors, I can move my mouse to a corner of monitor to switch to another monitor.
Is there any functionality to switch to another workspace when moving the mouse to a corner of monitor, when using only one monitor?

If I try to create a folder in / using sudo, it is ok.
When I enter inside folder /snap/vlc I can create a folder or copy a file using sudo.

But if I try to create a folder or copy a file inside /snap/vlc/2344 system returns:
cp: cannot create regular file './158285-clickpause.lua': Read-only file system

I have a swap file in my file system /swapfile with 2GB, but I want to use a partition.

I created a partition using Gparted.
I removed my swap file using: sudo swapoff /swapfile
But I have a line on /etc/fstab with my old swapfile.

In all machines, the same problem.

I'm looking for a very fast simple basic text editor for graphical desktop environment.

I'm user of Ubuntu (mate) and Mint (cinnamon)

Using Windows 7, the notepad.exe is very lightweight and fast, but all text editors (Pluma, gEdit, Geany...) that I tested on a Linux Window Manager is a little slow and heavy.

Edit:

I tested Xed(consumes 12mb), Mousepad(consumes 10mb), Tomboy for notes (consumes 24mb), Sublime Text(consumes 70mb), Gedit, Jedit.

(notepad.exe using Wine) but the two together consumes 13mb of memory.

all text editors on terminal have a problem, each bash instance or tab consumes 5mb of memory and more of mate-terminal or gnome-terminal that consumes at least 7mb of memory.
