I've recently upgraded Ubuntu from 18.04 to 20.04 LTS through the Update Manager. Since then, while the 'Document Scanner' is launched, it detects the HP scanner (Laser Jet Pro MFP M130nw, 3-in-1). But, when the Scan is launched, 'Failed to scan, unable to connect to server' message displays. The Printer works, but not the Scanner. What could be wrong? Thanks for your help.' EDIT: I've tried 'sudo apt purge ippusbxd' as recommended by xenopeek in this thread but the problem persists.

I've moved from 18.04 to 20.04.1 LTS on my desktop. As soon as I insert an audio CD, the whole system (screen and central unit) crash and shut down within a couple of seconds without any prompt, with the CD still inside! On restart, it ends the same way after 4-5 seconds. I managed somehow to exit the CD and Ubuntu starts normally. I tried several CDs, got the same result. Why? Pentium (R) Dual-Core CPU E5200; Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS 64-bit
EDIT: If the CD driver is SATA or IDE... how to know? The model is: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224BB (SB00)

I've recently upgraded Ubuntu to 20.4.1 LTS from 18.04.1 LTS through the Update Manager. Since then, I'm not able to move local files to a folder from the Desktop and vice versa. Though, a file transfer from a folder to an another one is possible. But not Desktop <----> Folder! Why? Thanks for your help.
How can I open Firefox (version 79.0
, 64-bit) in Safe Mode automatically using StartUp Applications in Ubuntu 18.04.5
LTS?
In my Startup Applications, 'SSH Key Agent GNOME Keyring: SSH Agent' is checked. I wonder if it should remain like this. What is it useful for?
Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS, OS type 64-bit
My Firefox runs slow after a few hours (loading pages, video stream buffering, window movements, mouse commands etc). 3-4 tabs are generally open (I think its not much) in a single instance and a few extensions installed as well.
I think its one of them slowing down the browser. As soon as I run FF in a private window or run other browser, the PC's speed is back to normal.
Instead of trying out one by one sites and extensions, is there a way to know what actually is causing the problem? A log file for example. If yes, where to find it and how to interpret it? Thanks for the help.
Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS (64-bit), 3.8 GiB, Firefox 75.0 (64-bit)
My son is to follow his school lessons from the computor through a chat client. He is advised to use Skype for this. His teacher will be using Skype on Windows.
What is the best option which would give all the features of Skype (audio, video, file transfer etc..)?
My OS: Ubuntu 18.04.4
I've currently 18.04.2 LTS installed on my desktop. For some reasons, I want to re-install it (the same version). Some malfunctions have motivated this idea. (occasional freezes, online & local audio streams running on a loop from time to time as in a used CD, black Ubuntu screen blinking while start-up and not advancing towards the Session Opening screen...
Is it safe to do so through the 'Startup Disk Creator' - will it work to install the same version?
I'll be doing it by a USB. While installing it the previous time, I think I had removed the USB at a wrong point. When exactly should I remove the USB? After the installation process, I should generally get the prompt to remove it. Instead, I was invited to re-boot the computer without getting the prompt to remove the key. Will I get the prompt after re-boot?
18.04.2 LTS; 3.28.2; 64-bit; Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz x 2; AMD Rv730
I've shifted to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS from 12.04 LTS recently. It runs unusually slow. Slow boot, logout and power-off processes; window selection/move a couple of seconds after click in it/mouse movement; occasional freezes, slow site loading, need to click on 'Next' button and not taking the command by Enter key after password on more than one site... are some of the symptoms. What could be wrong? 18.04 LTS, GNOME 3.28.2, 64-bit, Pentium(R) Dual-Core, CPU [email protected] GHz x 2, CPU1 at around 24%, CPU2 at around 30%, Memory 83%, SWAP 46%. Thanks for participating.
I am trying to install an HP Laser Jet Pro multifunction printer (MFP M130nw) on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, but no success. After connecting it to my PC, there's no printing and scanning. Launching a print from a document, my screen displays a message 'the print has been stopped' while the printer is ON. Settings>Devices>Printer says the printer is 'Ready'. The printer screen also shows 'Ready'. The Software Center indicates HPLIP is already installed. What could still be missing? OS type - 64-bit, GNOME 3.28.2, my ease with the Terminal- almost like a beginner.
I am currently using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and want to upgrade to 16.04.4 LTS through a fresh install (iso file). Creating a USB with Startup Disk Utility has some issues according to this article. So, I preferred to install 16.04.4 without the Startup Utility and merely copying install file on the USB. In which format the USB should be formatted prior to copying the iso file on it so that the PC read it on boot? (...assuming that the PC will recognize the file copied on 12.04) Thanks for your reply. Kam
Computer hardware: 64-bit
I am trying to shift from 12.04 LTS to 16.04.3 LTS desktop amd64 through a fresh install (iso file download on a DVD).
In the process, is it necessary to verify the Ubuntu download prior to installation - its a bit complicated for me! ;)
Secondly, is there a way to know whether my computer hardware is compatible with 16.04.3?
Thanks for the reply.
For some days, Firefox has been consuming high CPU percentage while simply loading pages. It drops down otherwise. It often crosses 100% and even goes beyond upto 150% sometimes(!).
I ran Firefox in Safe Mode and observed the CPU, it is the same behaviour. I guess therefore that its none of add-ons causing it.
Refreshed Firefox through Menu, Troubleshooting Information. It gave no result.
I changed the Cache Disk Capacity value to 16384 as explained here but it is still the same. The default Integer Value has returned to 358400 while I check again.
How to remedy this?
Thanks for your reply.
Ubuntu: 12.04 (precise) 32-bit

I currently work on Ubuntu 12.04. When I install Updates though Update manager, it also invites me to upgrade to 14.04. When I accept it, after fetching some packages, it shows a warning!
The command lspci | grep VGA
shows
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: advanced micro devices, inc [AMD/ATI] RV730XT [Radeon HD4670].
Should I still go for the upgrade?
Thanks for your reply.
My Update Manager in Ubuntu 12.04 pops up this message while installing updates: 'Requires installation of untrusted packages. The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources'. In Details: 'gnome-control-center gnome-control-center -data libgnome-control-center'
How to solve the problem?
Thankyou. :)
I am looking for an easy video editor for Ubuntu 12.04. My needs are simple: make clips and upload them on sites (cut segments from a video file with frame to frame precision, convert into common formats, resize the file).
Can anyone suggest one?
I take photos and videos using Cheese on Ubuntu 12.04. They are in WebM formats.
How to convert them in other more conventional formats for making them compatible with other OS and devices (Windows, Mobiles etc)?
I am looking for an easy tool since I don't need to process my files further.
Thanks for the reply.
How to capture an online video stream and edit (convert into other formats, make a clip, etc.) it in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?
I've recently migrated to Linux from Windows and I work on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I am trying to preserve my usual habits of Windows so that I can use Linux more regularly. One of those habits is P2P activity.
On Windows, to get the best of my P2P client (uTorrent), I was proceeding as follows:
- Set a static IP to my system and
- Forward a port
Do I need to do the same to make Transmission work at its full capacity?
If yes, how to set a static IP in Ubuntu? (hope, its not too complicated for a novice like me)
I can manage with forwarding a port unless its a specific process for Linux.
I am looking for a step by step method for enabling write in indian languages (hindi and gujarati) in Ubuntu applications (browser, LibreOffice, Pidgin etc..).
Could anyone please provide me a method for beginner to do it or simply direct me to the one if you know?
