If I go to Settings > Network I think I'm supposed to be able to select my Wifi Network manager by clicking the gear icon. Shown below to the right of "1000 Mb/s On/Off".
But my Wireless connection doesn't show up at all on this GUI dialog shown above. I can only see the VPN box and the Network Proxy box. The Wired box is completely missing (in my case it's actually a wireless connection).
I need to get to the network manager, so I can access all the settings below.
I kept getting timeout errors on 18.04 Bionic Beaver, until I switched to OpenDNS using these commands

Should I really be doing this OpenDNS configuration with Netplan? I tried the following but it doesn't work.

I also tried this syntax in the body to no avail, but maybe it because I'm on wifi and I called out 'ethernet'??? wlo1 is my wifi logical name when I sudo lshw -C network.

I've done a clean install of 18.04 and I can't open desktop folders, not even the desktop trash can. Anybody else had this issue? I click on the desktop folders (double click) and nothing happens.
Strange enough, I can open them when using Nautilus and going to home\stackinator\desktop\ or whatever the path is (can't remember at this point).
How do I turn the GNOME night light on or off from the command line? I've got the command gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.color night-light-enabled but don't know what flag/argument/whatever to put on the end of it.

What's the easiest way to invert colors on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver on the display output?
The default Ubuntu 18.04 Dash-to-dock dock allows a thumbnail preview of open windows for an application. You initiate this by hovering over the application and clicking once on it. There's no point requiring a click, and I'd rather the sequence initiate simply by hovering over the program (something Windows 7/10 actually gets right).
This is already offered by Dash-to-panel as demonstrated here. But Dash-to-panel can't be placed on the left side of the screen where I need it. Only options for Dash-to-panel are bottom or top of screen.
How do I turn on this Dash-to-dock hover preview that I want?
There's a manual option to set the times you want GNOME night light to be on and off. I want it always on.
The closest I can get is to set it to turn on at 00:00 and turn off at 23:59. But then at midnight it goes off for a minute which is annoying. Then I have to turn it back on through the settings. How do I force it "always on".
Are these repositories enabled by default in Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver? It appears so... Main, Restricted, Universe, and Multiverse...
Another procedure lists this as a step sudo add-apt-repository universe
but it seems un-needed since the universe repo is already enabled? Am I right?

Let's say I'm logged on to Linux as user1 and I want to install a Flatpak to user2's account. What is the command? These do not work.

Do I have to log on to user2's account and then issue the command

or is the proper command something else? The current documentations doesn't provide examples of the --user argument in use so I'm left to guess.
A link to this Dell article describes issues with Ubuntu Bionic Beaver and certain Dell Precision / XPS trackpads. I have a Dell Inspiron that is experiencing the same issue. The issue is that Ubuntu 18.04 runs two trackpad drivers at once on these Dell laptops, causing the cursor to jump around the screen.
If I issue the xinput list command I receive the following output:
Virtual core pointer
Virtual core XTEST pointer
Synaptics TM3096-006
SynPS/2 Synaptics Touchpad
To me that says I've got two mouse drivers running; Synaptics TM3096-006 and SynPS/2 Synaptics Touchpad. The article I linked to above describes how to permanently disable the SynPS/2 Synaptics Touchpad driver by editing the *synaptics-quirks.conf and *synaptics.conf files.
My problem is that the *synaptics-quirks.conf and *synaptics.conf files don't even exist in my /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory. The files I have in this directory include:

10-quirks.conf
10-radeon.conf
40-libinput.conf
70-wacom.conf
Do I simply create these *synaptics-quirks.conf and *synaptics.conf files in my *xorg.conf.d/ directory? Or edit one (multiple) files already in the directory? The gist of the edit includes adding lines such as:

I installed LibreOffice 6 Snap and it automatically inherited my Ubuntu 16.04 dark theme.
I installed LibreOffice 6 Flatpak and it does not automatically inherit my Ubuntu 16.04 dark theme.
Why? How do I enable the dark theme on my Flatpak LibreOffice?
I just installed Ubuntu 18.04 on my testbed laptop. Total fresh install (chose the 'minimal' option). The first two things I did were install R 3.5 and R Studio 1.1.453. If I open up a fresh install of R and just let it sit idle for 30 minutes or so I eventually get the error "Error: Unable to establish connection with R session".
At this point in time I can't do anything in R Studio and I have to xkill it and reload everything to continue programming. An internet search reveals that this issue has been popping up repeatedly since people have been installing R/R Studio on Ubuntu machines that use GNOME. Am not sure if GNOME is the root cause but it's interesting.
Anybody solved this? Or maybe you run R 3.5 fine on Ubuntu 18.04 without issue. Please let me know. I can only run for 30 minutes or so before this issue brings my system down. And my system is a fresh install of Bionic Beaver with just R on it. Weird.

When I maximize gedit the last line of the text editor is obscured by the status bar at the bottom of the screen. This occurs even if I scroll to the very bottom of the document.
Say the document is 200 lines long. I can scroll to the bottom and see line 199. Line 200 is covered by the status bar of gedit. How do I overcome this issue? If I de-maximize the window I am able to access the last line of the text file I'm working on.

My GNOME Ubuntu 16.04 had this option under the tweaks tool:
Tweaks > Appearance > Global Dark Theme > On/Off
My same setup on 18.04 is simply missing this option entirely. How do I get the on/off button back? There's not even this Global Dark Theme line item under Appearances at all.
Are Snaps installed system wide, or are they only installed for the user who is logged in, and installing them? on Ubuntu 18.04?
I don't see any option like Flatpak's --user to install Snaps for a single user. And what is the command to install a Snap for a single user?
