I have extracted a *.ico file from a exe file. Its a vector graphic file, gimp says its size is 32x32. I copied the file to /home/user/.local/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/ and updated the icon database. But i can't add the icon to a desktop file and can't find the icon in the Yad Icon Browser. Is there an other way to import such icon to the database?

It works when i use the absolute path in the desktop file.

I have minetime (latest version) launching to run in background after startup in Xubuntu 18.04. I want to see my calendar, but I don't need the notifications which display 10 minutes before the event.

I can start a config to enable/disable notifications for some applications with xfce4-notifyd-config but minetime isn't displayed there. The app isn't installed using apt or dpkg; I run it directly from /home/user/bin .

I downloaded a new versio of tor browser because the old version i used before couldnt connect to the network. After uncompressing the archive i made the script "start-tor-browser" executable and tried to start tor browser with ./start-tor-browser ... and nothing happens. There is no error, nothing. The same when i double-click on the *.desktop file in the same directory.

It works when i start ubuntu in a virtual machine (virtualbox). This means it should be a problem with my ubuntu and not tor browser. What can be the problem?

Im on xubuntu 18.04. tor browser version is 8.5.4 x64. Also tried 9.0a with the same problems.

when i run

file --mime-type file.nzb

i get the mime type

text/xml

But in /usr/share/applications there is a xml file that should create a mime type for nzb

The database was updated with 'sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime' and i restarted the computer. but there is no nzb mime type. the mime type 'text/xml' is defined in file xml.xml in the same directory with this content

There is no *.nzb pattern here. so i don't unterstand why it doesn't work.

I use an underscore at the beginning of file and folder names to mark them as something "special". But this sorting doesn't work for the most programs under Linux. I tried LC_COLLATE=C ls and other locales but the results are something strange. Let's say I have these folders:

2
A
_F
G
K
S
x4

This is the sort order of ls. When I use LC_COLLATE=C ls, I have this:

2
A
G
K
S
_F
x4

I have this under Xubuntu 18.04 using the xfce-terminal-emulator on 2 machines.

What is wrong here?
