I'm on 20.04, which has logrotate 3.14.0. I need a later version which has important bugfixes.
This page shows that 20.04 has version 3.14.0, and this page shows that 21.04 has version 3.18.0 (the one I want).
I don't want to upgrade until the next LTS (22.04 I assume).
What are my options for getting the latest logrotate?
Is there any other approach I've not considered?
I just discovered that chromium will only be released as a snap package.
How can I continue to get chromium, without snap? Is this possible without building from source?

No, this is not a duplicate of that linked question. I don't need to know "why it's a snap". I want to know how to use it without snap.
Right now there is building from source, and some random PPA mentioned below. I hope someone can advise us of trustworthy alternatives.
The typical way to set the timezone is to use timedatectl, e.g.:
sudo timedatectl set-timezone America/New_York
So I can use a named zone, or UTC.
But how do I set the zone without a name - e.g. UTC-5 or UTC+10 or whatever?
Since updating to latest ubuntu and vscode, I can't launch gnome-terminal from vscode.
If I try launch gnome-terminal in vscode's terminal or via an extension then I get:

I have fixed and removable disks/volumes and they all show an icon on the desktop. I only want the removable mounts shown.
There is a dconf setting to show/hide icons, but it shows/hides all of them. I want to be selective.
An example of a fixed mount from /etc/fstab:
/dev/disk/by-uuid/some-uuid /mnt/Stuff auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
How should I change it?
I don't need braille packages on my system. So I did:
sudo apt purge brltty brltty-x11 libbrlapi0.6 python3-brlapi xbrlapi
However I just discovered there is also liblouis-data. There are probably more packages that I don't know about.
How do I remove everything related to braille, without messing up my system?
(If there are other assistive technologies installed by default, I'd like to remove those too.)
My OS and all packages were updated and functional. I received an upgrade notice for virtualbox, so I let it update. It failed and left my OS unstable.
So I remove it completely:
sudo dpkg --purge virtualbox-qt
sudo dpkg --purge virtualbox
sudo dpkg --purge virtualbox-dkms
sudo dpkg --purge dkms
sudo apt autoremove
sudo find / -name vbox # delete anything found by this command
sudo find / -name virtualbox # delete anything found by this command

And it always gets this far then freezes:

Sometimes I mistakenly rearrange windows so there is an empty workspace at the top or middle of the list. So I need to move all the windows "up" to get rid of it.
How can I remove a specific workspace?
I need a few basic bash commands, so I have WSL installed (Ubuntu 18.04).
With cygwin everything I need takes about 150MB. But WSL takes over 1GB !! Not good for my small SSD.
I'm sure there's loads of stuff/junk in there that isn't necessary (or even possible to use). Has anyone managed to reduce the size?
I did sudo apt autoremove but that doesn't help at all (obviously).

The answers below are super, but the above question remains unanswered. Suppose that WSL is being used (for various bash commands) - that is the premise, not wine/cygwin/vm/dualboot/docker/etc.
How would you strip it of stuff that can't be used within Windows anyway? I've read that there is all sorts of dead weight in there that can't be used. For example, if all you need is a collection of bash commands, how do you remove all the GUI and X stuff. Just as an example.

I'm using the latest Ubuntu 18.04 LTS bionic.
When I login it shows my username and I just need to type a password.
I don't want usernames to be shown. I want to be forced to type a username and password.
How do I do that? All I found is info for old versions or lightdm (18 uses gdm).
I have a device I want to mount for root with full permissions and for everyone else as readonly. The man page tells me this is possible.
So:
