I have managed to set mpv's progress bar as always visible by adding visibility=always to ~/.config/mpv/script-opts/osc.conf. However, the bar occludes part of the video.
Is there a way to resize the video area so that it is not covered by the bar (like in VLC)?
I have found --window-scale, --autofit and its variants in the manual, but none of them solved my problem, they only change the window size.
How to find all programs associated with a MIME type? One could look for the MIME type
in the default, system-wide directory. For example, for application/pdf,
grep -ls application/pdf /usr/share/applications/*
lists all the program files in /usr/share/applications that are associated
with application/pdf.
But that would overlook other directories, specially user-level directories.
Isn't there a command similar to
xdg-mime query default application/pdf
to list all associated programs, not only the default one?
The GTK widget factory is useful for visualizing and creating GTK themes. Search engine has led me to some websites1,2 which suggest building it from sources or adding a PPA. Isn't there a package in the main repository that installs it?

I am trying to make a simple indicator (a simple bar to show current brightness of screen) for my system tray with appindicator3. The problem is that none of the two tutorials that I found on the subject cover it, and I can't find any documentation about appindicator3. This issue has already been detected in the comments of this answer.
I thought my search had ended when I found libappindicator-doc and installed it,
apt-get install libappindicator-doc
However, there is nothing useful under /usr/share/doc/libappindicator-doc, just a changelog and a copyright.
Did I look in the wrong place? Never before have I found a useless /usr/share/doc/package-doc directory once installed the package-doc.
I have a more than 10 year old HP laptop. It came with Windows XP, which today is obsolete.
I want to install Lubuntu on it (because it's old), but it does not support boot from pen-drive, and the only option I detect is using a CD. I have a 650 MB one but that is insufficient space for the latest version of Lubuntu.
I found older versions which would fit in that CD, however they are not supported anymore. My main concern is safety against malware and such threats.
Should I install that older version (that fits the CD) or are there other feasible ways of installing the latest LTS release?

My computer has both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04, the latter of which I installed later. I wonder if completely deleting Windows could improve Linux booting time (about 1 min at the moment).
