Since a few years I am a bit annoyed by the fact that ulauncher's extension for file and directory search is so slow. Even when setting home as Base dir and searching for a file just below home it takes >6s.
Is there a way to speed it up? Maybe reduce the tree depth of the search?
this problem seems to come in a lot of different flavors.
With my Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS I can rarely use public Wifi because I cannot connect to the captive portal to login/"click connect".
In the KDE Networks tab I can connect to such a public wireless network.
It shows as connected in the tab (Wifi symbol, no little question mark).
However, I cannot resolve anything in the public Wifi network.
If I type anything into chromium, chrome, or firefox I get DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET.

Before you mark this as duplicate; I have found the solutions mentioned below. Unfortunately none of them worked for me. They appear in different threads but I think there are essentially 4:

I was on a German train again and as commented by waltinator I tried to curl and ping detectportal.firefox.com after adding 184.150.154.24 detectportal.firefox.com to /etc/hosts. ping didn't go through and curl returned 302 not found. I watched journalctl -f /usr/sbin/NetworkManager while trying to connect.

www.wifionice.de was the captive portal on that train.
When opening detectportal.firefox.com in chromium I can see that the redirect to http://www.wifionice.de/de/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdetectportal.firefox.com%2F is done, but the request to www.wifionice.de doesn't return.

I'm trying to upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS to 18.04.
I ran sudo do-release-upgrade and after around 1 hour the process finished with:

I rebooted and my linux seems to be 18.04, so I thought it was just the kubuntu-desktop install that didn't work. I tried to force install it:

I want to upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS to 18.04, so ran sudo do-release-upgrade.
After downloading and extracting bionic.tar.gz I get:

I saw How to fix "python installation is corrupted"? and so I did sudo ln -sf /usr/bin/python3.6 /usr/bin/python3 thinking that it would be a similar problem. But that didn't work (still same error message).
I have a few python versions:

$ update-alternatives --display python3
python3 - auto mode
