I just downloaded my Social Security Benefit letter for year 2020 in preparation for filing my 2020 US Income Tax.
In years past, this document has been in PDF format. And the SS website claims that the document is in PDF format. But, actually, it is the mothballed Apple II .action format.
I am having difficulty finding any useful information online on how to do the conversion on a linux system.
How can I convert from file.action to file.pdf on a Ubuntu? [ubuntu 20.10 in my case]
I have installed Gwenview 20.04.0 from snap on Ubuntu 20.04.
When printing, the only option is print to file, PDF.
Is there any way to configure Gwenview to print to the system printer?
Also, the default paper size is A4. Is there any way to change the default to 'letter'?
A web search has so far failed to uncover any answers to these questions.
GRUB boots my dual boot Linux/Windows desktop into Linux by default.
Today I did the Windows 10 October 2019 update.
Although Windows left GRUB unmolested, the GNOME display manager failed and Linux booted into emergency mode.
Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?
I am running Ubuntu 18.04 which I updated today before updating Windows.
After downloading the amd64 zesty server iso and burning it to dvd I did a fresh install with nothing but the basic packages. I did not check any of the optional 'boxes' during the install. There are no other operating systems on the drive.
When I try to do
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
the attempt fails with
E: The repository 'http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu zesty Release' does no longer have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default
The same error message is also given for zesty-security and zesty-updates.
This seems to be strange behavior for such a basic installation.
One would presume that us.archive.ubuntu.com would be secure if any archive is secure.
Is there a way to force the update and upgrade?
Additional information: If I simply do
sudo apt upgrade
I get multiple
Could not resolve 'us.archive.ubuntu.com'
messages.
I tried the suggestion that it might be an IVP6 issue and did a suggested edit to /etc/gai.conf but that had no effect
I frequently need to use accented letters and for years have used the USA International keyboard for this option. So I was disappointed to find that Ubuntu Gnome no longer includes this as an option when selecting keyboard layouts.
This morning I need to write an email in Spanish and discovered that the very long list of keyboard layouts available in Ubuntu 16.10 does not include the USA International keyboard.
Does anyone know a work-around for the unavailability of the USA International keyboard?
Google Chrome is incapable of using Gnome Shell Integration. But everytime I open Chrome an annoying popup informs me that my "native host connector is not detected." Does anyone know how to yank this out by its roots?
After closing the popup, it pops back up at random intervals. Very annoying.
Oh, yes, I have popup blocker enabled.
I had to wait a month to receive my Asus 1225C netbook from Adorama Camera and was disappointed to find that it comes without Ubuntu installed. I have Eeebuntu 12.04 on a flash drive but the 1225C will not boot from it. So how do I install Ubuntu?
Also, anyone thinking of buying this from Adorama Camera, be warned that they sell the 1225C WITHOUT an operating system and the BIOS has no option for installation from a USB stick. After going back to their website I do see that they do say "no OS" so it is my fault for not reading more carefully.
