I'm a Ubuntu user from way back to the point where I supported it for a professional software team. I am, myself, a Java Developer. Recently I got my Amateur Radio license. Where can I find guidance on how to set up my System76 laptop such that it has packages and configurations such as those available on Skywave Linux, which is a Ham derivation of Ubuntu?

So I have two machines and they are both on ProtonVPN which uses OpenVpn and *.ovpn files. So the server is not on my local net but the clients are. What modifications can I make to either my network configuration or the *.ovpn files to exclude 192.168.*.* addresses from the VPN connections? Note that one of the machines has an unused Ethernet port, if we need that.

I want a portable version of Ubuntu that I can easily carry in my pocket. Problem is that I need it to be encrypted or it's useless. Every set of USB stick instructions I've seen so far does not account for the ease with which one might loose a USB stick. This seems like a major issue to me. How do we claim that Ubuntu is secure, if it isn't? The average person can't even keep track of their laptops and notebooks. How are they going to keep track of a USB stick?? ...and then having lost it, instantly have a major security breach?

Are there any tools available on Ubuntu that I can use to generate EBCDIC files? I need to BS up one for a test.

So, for me, the Insert key toggle was driving me to distraction on Mac since Ubuntu is my main OS. I had to hunt down the key mapping and duplicate it in macvim. How I've done this so far is to do:

1. Start up vim on Ubuntu. Type :scriptnames to get the list of possibles.

2. Cut and past that into a file named ~/file.list and remove anything that isn't a full path. Specifically the line numbers. Save the file. The file contains:

For the record, I've already manually checked everything in /etc/vim/ and ~/.vimrc

3. To find out where the references are, I tried:

Unfortunately none of these is the right animal. I'm assuming that <S-Insert> is a reference to the Insert key as modified by some other key. Perhaps the Super key.

Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS

I've done:

sudo apt-get install p7zip-full 

...but when I launch file roller, I don't see any encryption options and the UI seems very basic.

In theory, if I can run it in FireFox, there should be no problem. Of course the devil is in the details. Has anyone tried this?

Clearly this is an issue and likely it has a solution which might be:

1. This is not required because...
2. This is impractical because... [2 passwords on suspend, for example]
3. Oh. Yeah, we fixed that in version XYZ. Do Q and it will work fine.
4. You're hosed unless you can write C++ and can code it yourself.

Drive in question is an SSD.

IMHO Suspend is something modern computers can do. What I don't understand is why Full Disk Encryption isn't full disk. That seems like a bug.

I went with full disk encryption. Does this mean I need to concern myself with the swap partition or is that encrypted also? I was expecting "Full Disk" to mean the whole disk including all partitions but this has recently come into question by a third party.

Of particular trouble to me is getting the USB drivers to cooperate. USB 3.0

USB stick version of windows 10 home. I think I do have the right extension pack although there may be more steps to implementing that than I am aware of.
