Since installing 24.04, when I try to rename a file by right-click on the file icon followed by 'M', nautilus freezes, and can only be closed by right click and 'quit' in the launcher. Right-click on the file icon followed by left-click on 'Rename' works, and left-click and 'F2' works.
Dell Inspiron 16 5645; Ubuntu 24.04
I have a Dell laptop (inspiron 16 5645). In addition to the Super key, it has another key which I am told is the windows co-pilot key. It appears to behave like the left-shift key, and xev reports it as the same keycode, but presumably Windows can distinguish it.
Can I do anything useful with it? I want to map it to right-ctrl, which is absent.

In 20.04 I used .bashrc to include a hidden folder in my system path:
/home/robert/.local/...
Since upgrading to 22.04, it appears that the system no longer searches this folder. Has this changed in 22.04? Can I restore it?
Sounds technical, but it's a problem with upgrade to 22.04.
I have a LibreOffice basic macro which calls vlc via a shell routine. At its simplest:

shell("vlc ,path-to-file>", <window-type>)
This worked fine until I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04,but suddenly does not work - nothing apparently happens. Other shell commands work ok, and the same vlc call issued from a terminal works.
Has something changed in 22.04 (or just possibly vlc) that might stop this particular call working?
What has happened to the Preferences-Behaviour settings in 22.04. Is there another way to set the behaviour of script files when they are double clicked? There used to be that option in the nautilus menu in 20.04. The behaviour could also be modified in dconf-editor, but I don't see it there now either.
It appears that with 22.04, the dash can only display ALL apps. It was previously possible to display RECENTLY USED. Is this option still available?
I have always assumed that Shift-Ctrl is interchangeable with Ctrl-Shift as modifier to certain keystroke commands. For no particular reason, I have been in the habit of typing Shift-Ctrl. Since upgrading to 22-04, Suddenly I find that only Ctrl-Shift is working. While I may have to retrain my fingers, I wonder why this has occurred, and whether there is a simple way of changing back.

This is a simple extension of the question: How to convert document from Google Docs to text file But if I specify the format as "export?format=ods" (with "-O file.ods"), the output may be called .ods, but contains only text (.xml code, I believe).
Alex Goes Fuhrmann and Pomsky have described the process to pin folders to the files icon on the Ubuntu dock in 18.04 (How do I pin my favorite folders in Ubuntu dock like in Windows?). I had this working in 18.04, but it no longer applies in 20.04.
In 20.04, there are 2 files related to nautilus in /usr/share/applications: naultilus-autorun-software.desktop and org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop. The latter is very similar to nautilus.desktop.
So I followed the same procedure (copy org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop to ~/.local/share/applications, edit the "Actions=" line and add "[Desktop-Action ...]" sections). Now, while the new locations are listed under the files icon, only the first (--new-window) does anything.
What is wrong, or missing?
Several pages provide the correct commands to start LO, such as:
libreoffice6.4 --writer
But whenever LO updates, that command must be changed. Is there a command which will catch up when LO updates?
Running Thunderbird v60.9 on Bionic, the menu and documentation say F5 will 'Get new messages for current account.' But I get the 'no go' sign flashing up. I've got no immediate help from Mozilla forum. Anyone else seen this?
I am trying to install 18.04 as a dual boot on a Dell Inspiron 3593 laptop running Windows 10 on a Basic(not Dynamic) partitioned 450GB HDD; have disabled fast startup and secure boot and created space on the disk. The LiveUSB boots up, but it cannot see the HDD. Help urgently needed and gratefully received!
EDIT: In reply to K7AAY ... Unfortunately (?) I have rendered the question obsolete. What I did was change the SATA mode between RAID and AHCI. This meant I could read the hdd from the LiveUSB, but the machine would not boot. Since I was only half-hearted about keeping the Windows system anyway, I wiped the disk and successfully installed 18.04.
Incidentally gparted was unable to reach the hdd, only my 8GB usb being listed.
Since re-installing 18.04, evince document reader is failing to open. The files can be opened with other readers. I have removed and reinstalled evince.
The symptoms are:Whether I double click a pdf or call evince from the applications window, the wheel of hesitation appears for a few seconds and then all goes quiet. If I run in terminal, I get the message 'segmentation error, core dumped.' In /var/crash, I have several dumps, mostly of 0 bytes, although there is one significant one. I don't know how to make sense of it, and I don't think I can attach it here.
Anyone else seeing this, or any suggestions?

The supposed duplicate (How do I pin my favorite folders in Ubuntu dock like in Windows?) concerns pinning one location to the launcher. This question is about having several locations available under one 'files' entry on the launcher.
Can someone please give a step by step description of how to achieve this in 18.04.
Upgrading to from 16.04 to 18.04 ran smoothly, but some customised keyboard shortcuts have stopped working and the problem seems to be with the commands attached to the shortcuts. Strangely, for instance a shortcut to run thunderbird with the command "thunderbird" worked immediately after the upgrade, but I changed the keystroke and it no longer works.
Running the command from the command window (opened with Alt or Alt+F2) also fails. Several other shortcuts/commands display the same behaviour.
