I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 with Unity using the mini ISO. So I don't have GNOME installed with Unity. My problem is that keyboard shortcuts (e.g., launching Terminal or switching between keyboard layouts) don't work. Searching online, some have suggested to add sleep 2 before launching compiz in /usr/lib/systemd/user/unity7.service. This worked once but after I rebooted it didn't work anymore. Others have suggested to toggle Commands in CompizConfig Settings Manager. This works but I have to redo it every time I log out. Is there any permanent solution to this? This is really irritating.

Update: Apparently, this is a bug according to this link.

From when I reboot my Ubuntu 18.04 until I see the login screen it takes about 2 minutes. It seems that booting the kernel is not the problem. The following is the result of running systemd-analyze time.

Startup finished in 2.898s (kernel) + 10.392s (userspace) = 13.291s
graphical.target reached after 10.386s in userspace

My guess is that this has something to do with gdm. Here is a few lines of my /var/log/syslog right after a reboot.

The most obvious delay here is before It prints Inserted module 'lp' which is about 50 sec. I'd appreciate if someone could help me with this.

I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950x system. A few applications like Firefox, Thunderbird, and Terminal lag. For example, in both Firefox and Thunderbird, whenever I right click, it takes about 3-4 seconds for the list to appear. Also, in Firefox, whenever I click on an HTML drop-down list to see the context menu, I again have to wait for a few seconds to see the list. In Terminal, right clicking works fin, but whenever I press tab twice to see the list of options or to use autocomplete, it freezes from few seconds.
