Here is my story. I purchase an HP laptop that came preinstalled with Windows 10. I did not want Windows so I installed Kubuntu in which I am currently using version 20.4. I am having all sorts of problems and I am pretty convinced that they are isolated to Kubuntu. For example, I have 3 other Acer laptops that was also having the same problems plus some while running Kubuntu. I switched them to Ubuntu and they are running awesomely. All of those problems are now gone. I would like the same for my HP laptop. However, when I try to install Ubuntu, I get a message that the installer has detected that I have RAID devices and it cannot continue. It directed me to a support page which did not help. I looked in BIOS and I have two drives, one is just under 2 TB and the other is 14 GB. For both, it says that they are Non-RAID. To me that is confusing.

I tried contacting HP but that was a bust since they kept pushing me to use Windows and never would tell me how to fix it. So now I am coming in hopes that I can get some help. The model name of my laptop is HP Laptop 17-by0089cl. I used Ubuntu sometime ago for awhile and it was very nice. I had to briefly go to Windows 10 before now being on Kubuntu but I would just like to go back to Ubuntu and stay put.

I am getting a strange printout of what appears to be errors in my terminal when I load the app in Kubuntu 20.04. I first noticed it while using Hyper Terminal, but then I tried Konsole and got the same thing.

I am trying to install Ubuntu 18.04 on a Macbook Pro. I downloaded the file and used Etcher to flash it to a USB from within Windows 10. I booted it up on the Mac. When I selected the drive and clicked to continue, I got the message; "error: file /boot/ not found." Then it goes to a blank screen. I then tried to write the file to a DVD and try booting from it but I got the same response. I had Ubuntu on this Mac in the past so I do not know what is going on. Will someone please help?

I just purchased an HP PC with Windows 10. I would like to put Ubuntu on it instead. I have installed Ubuntu hundreds of times and I approached this install the same way. I tried downloading Ubuntu from within Windows and burned it to a USB stick using Rufus. I was hoping this would work better. I was wrong.

I booted to the USB stick and I immediately got a bunch of errors and then the PC shutdown. Well, I tried this process again using my Ubuntu 18.04 machine with Etcher to burn the image to my USB stick. I plugged it back into my Windows machine and I got the same results as before.

I finally was able to get to the install screen after manually selecting the EFI in the boot options. I went through the install pretty good at first. I got to the part where you tell the installer to install updates and third party drivers. I selected the options and clicked continue. The problem starts on the next screen. Instead of giving me the option of how to partition and install Ubuntu, there is an empty box with a plus and minus sign and a button that says change.

There is also a drop down box for selecting the drive. Then there is the option to go back, quit or install. If you click install, it says I have to select a partition first but there is not any partitions listed. I clicked on the plus sign to see if I can create something but nothing ever happens. This is as far as I can get.

I really do not know what is going on and how to fix it. I have never had this much trouble before. Will someone please help me?

I have created some .desktop files for some AppImages and they have all ran great up until I installed the Hyper Terminal. Now I get the following error:

KDEInit could not launch 'Hyper':
Could not open library 'libkdeinit5_Hyper'.
Cannot load library libkdeinit5_Hyper: (libkdeinit5_Hyper: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

I would like to fix this so that I can keep Hyper. I am using Kubuntu 18.04 with the latest updates. Will someone please help? Here is an example of the one I have for Minecraft:

There may be better ways but I am just learning.

How do I fix it so that I am not asked for my KDE Wallet and Keychain passwords every time that I reboot. I am using Kubuntu 18.04 with the latest updates.

When trying to back up my system, I get the following error. I know that there is something going on with permissions but I just do not know exactly what that something is. Will someone please help me? Here is the error:

I am new to the site and I have a question. I created an Ubuntu One and Launchpad account. I then went to my computer's settings and went to Online Accounts. I tried to sign into my Ubuntu One account but all I get is an error. I have checked and rechecked and my login credentials are correct. Has anyone else had this problem? I am running Ubuntu 18.4 and I have all of the latest updates.
