My external drive is not opening anymore, but it gets recognized. As soon as I open my Filesystem I can see the entry "SAMSUNG" above "Other Location". However if I click on it, nothing happens...
It used to work just fine. Did I mess something up with the access permissions?
Say I have a 1000 page PDF document. I'm viewing something on page 100 and need to check something on page 944. Now I'm on page 944 and want to jump back to my last viewed page 100. How would I do that? From most windows pdf programms I'm used to something like Control+(<- or ->). But that doesn't seem to work in Ubuntu PDF Viewer.
I also tried combinations of Control, Shift and Alt.
I've rented a laptop from my college and need to give it back soon. I haven't done anything illegal or bad with that computer, but still I want to give it back as cleanly as possible. I mostly want to delete all local internet usability traces. Since I'm new to Ubuntu, I'm not sure if there are some logfiles in the background somewhere (for example logging all url's visited and so on...). You Linux veterans, what files to delete and where to find them? Thanks!
I want to be able to see the code that gets executed whenever I type 'ls' or 'cd' in my terminal. With that I would like to get into modifying existing programs and writing new ones. In what language are those programs written?
Let's say that I want the output of ls viewed in nano or tilde.
I would do the following:
ls >> tmp
nano tmp
rm tmp
I don't like this because it creates a dumpfile that I sometimes forget to delete. Some people suggest this:
ls | less
or
ls | more
But I cannot do:
ls | nano
So how to solve this? I would need this especially when it comes to huge terminal outputs like the current processes where I would like to do a search afterwards.
I remember having a sidepane with the table of contents in a specific PDF file. I played around with the program and now it is closed. I can't find a way to reopen the above mentioned sidepane. Is there a hotkey for that or what is the name of the option?

I go to a public place where a wifi connection is possible. It is a WPA2, 802.1X connection. I have a username and a password, but when I simply find that network under the regular 'Select Network' (in Ubuntu) and try to connect, it fails.
I'm looking for some kind of config file, where I can manually enter my username/password, but I can't find the needed config file. I found this https://www.nowiressecurity.com/configure-8021x-authentication-linux page, but it doesn't specify the exact location of the config file.
I want to know if there is a command X that allows me to execute another command Y after a certain time. I would specify the time in X. The idea comes from a sleep timer, where I found: Shutdown after a certain time
With:
sudo shutdown -P +60
But say I want to do as described above:
command X -time 60 ls -a
Is there something like this and if not could I add it myself?
I recently switched from Windows 10 to Linux. I am trying to install Prolog and I followed the installation instructions on https://www.swi-prolog.org/build/PPA.html. I had no errors during the commands apt-add repository, apt-get update and apt-get install swi-prolog.
I expected just to see Prolog in my applications, but isn't listed and can't be found via the search. I'm very confused because I don't know where to look. In Windows I could look in my Program Files directory or in the installed software display. Do I have to find and start it via the Terminal? Isn't the installation finished? Please help.
I recently switched to Ubuntu and find that I can't watch video on most websites (YouTube is an exception). I've read some tutorials and questions on this site that suggest to just download it from Ubuntu Software, but it can't be found in there.
How would you install Adobe Flash without it and how to even find out if it is already installed?

I have a ZEBRA ZT230 300dpi ZPL printer to which I m trying to send direct commands (without driver). I have the following simple zpl file:

I have tried the commands:
cat label.zpl > /dev/bus/usb/001/004
cat label.zpl > /dev/usb/lp0
But in both cases I get bash: Permission denied
How can I send my file directly to the printer?
