I was wondering if there was a way to install the Chrome OS (Chromebook) Files app on my Ubuntu Disco system without having to build it from source?

I personally prefer how the Files app on Chrome only has a Downloads folder instead of Documents/Music/Pictures/Videos/Public/etc. etc. etc. like Nautilus, Nemo, and almost every other "Linux" file manager I can think of.

Even if it doesn't work well with Ubuntu (I'm thinking the folders "Play files" and "Linux files" might not work when I click on them?), it would still be nice to know that there is an option to install it on Ubuntu.

I apologize in advance if this is confusing (this is the best way I could explain it):

Is there a way for the files Person B is sharing with Person A to be saved on Person A's computer so that when Person B goes to work, they still have access to the shared files, and then when they return home the files are re-synced with the shared folder? (Person A and B are both not very tech-savvy, which is why they were using Local Network Share in the first place.) Since Person B has the files that are to be shared with Person A, how does one sync files with Windows Samba share from within Ubuntu?

Just to clarify - there are no issues right now with Ubuntu-Windows interoperability - this is really a general question about caching (if that's the correct use of the word) the files on Person B's computer until they can return to the Local Network for the files to be updated.

I'm sure there's documentation somewhere, but I have no idea how to install the unstable version. Is there a step-by-step guide?

I am migrating my photo library from Google Photos to my local Pictures directory on my Ubuntu 18.04 LTS system. However, I was wondering if there was a way to view those photos on a different computer on a different network (e.g. a friend's house). Just curious because I saw this: https://www.vlchelp.com/remote-control-smartphone-browser/ and https://forums.tomsguide.com/faq/how-to-stream-videos-over-the-internet-with-vlc.23235/. And, according to the VLC for iOS app, it says I can stream from SMB, FTP, UPnP/DLNA (are those servers?). I'm looking for a step-by-step guide since I'm really a novice in this area.

I'm transitioning from Google Photos and I really liked Shotwell's features. However, face detection/recognition is very important to me because of how I manage my photos. I viewed this blog post that apparently shows how to do it, but it's very vague IMO since I'm not exactly an expert in this area. I tried doing the meson build but there were a ton of dependencies that I manually installed (maybe wasn't supposed to do that?) and one of them messed up my apt system (I ended fixing that by removing all other software in the Software app and doing a dist-upgrade which removed unnecessary packages and dependencies).

Is there a more step-by-step guide to doing this? I really like Shotwell but I must have the face detection feature (I know that it is in beta, but I saw a video that proves it works).

(I know I could use digiKam but I really like Shotwell!)

I don't know if there are any special instructions to follow, or if the Ubuntu (Ubiquity?) installer automatically detects this (and if it does detect the additional internal drive, what exactly would it do in the background)? I am not trying to dual-boot (I just plan to use a Windows 10 Virtual Machine, but for that, I'll need more disk space: I was planning to purchase a computer with a small 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, but I didn't know if Ubuntu would automatically install the bootloader and essential?? things on the SSD, and then I could use the HDD for other storage. This is because I had heard that SSDs are faster for starting up the operating system and for everyday use, but HDDs are still better for long-term storage. Is this correct as well?)

Previous answers to this question incorporated the KXStudio ppa to install the wine-asio driver. However, according to the KXStudio website:

I was wondering if there were any other ppa's or Ubuntu repositories that would allow me to install KXStudio (I know that I could also build from source, but I am not sure how to do that).

I was searching everywhere for this, but I was wondering if there is a way to install the new Yaru theme on Lubuntu 18.10, without having to build from source?

I was thinking that I could simply install the Communitheme snap that I found on Discover (the Lubuntu software center), but I didn't know what to do next.

I know that Yaru is a GTK theme as well, so I thought it would be easy to just install the Communitheme snap, but I'm not sure.

As per the attached screenshot, I realize that Lubuntu can work with GTK themes, but I'm a little confused as to how to do this...

I used the terminal to install the Snap version of Communitheme and did not get any errors. However, I do not know how to choose the Communitheme session; the only options when selecting the gear at the upper left corner of the screenshot above are "Lubuntu Session," "LXQt Desktop Session," and "Openbox Session."
