It used to work until yesterday at least, and I think it happened after installing and running a virtual machine through Virtualbox. Pretty much the whole desktop is idle and unusable. I don't mind this, as I don't usually use the desktop to store files or folders on it, but I am curious what I did and how it can be reversed or intentionally brought to this state.

At some point icons disappeared, can't be added, I can't left click + hold to select anything, and the right click menu doesn't give me anything but the 3 options seen on the screenshot. The right click menu works fine when I am in folders though.

I had an issue with the dongle not getting recognized at all. After installing some drivers from github, now it is actually recognized, and even the WiFi icon in the top-right menu appears (without a name) and it fails to find any networks.

When I run

sudo lshw -C network

it finds the dongle, but it says *-network DISABLED

I've disabled Secureboot and it's UEFI, if that makes any difference. Someone knows how this issue can be handled?

I think this worked on the previous Linux versions, but with the new version, the dongle just doesn't get recognized. From the drivers offered on TP-Link's page, there is a Linux installation guide which doesn't seem to be working.

Anyone has any ideas if there's a way I can make this work? I have the feeling it has something to do with the new kernel...

I enter a command like this one:

find . -type f -exec chmod 644 {} +`

The ` on the end breaks the command and the next fields are:

>

etc. There I can write whatever I want and quitting this happens only through Ctrl+C.

My question is: what are those > that I am getting to? I am not finding any information on why this is happening and what is its purpose.

I created an FTP, using only my local username. The issue was that I had access to all files on the computer, until I decided to actually try to create one in /media/USER/HDD1

It gave me the error: 500 OOPS: vsftpd: refusing to run with writable root inside chroot()

So, I accidentally used the command: chmod a-w /home/testuser

instead of: ‘allow_writeable_chroot=YES’ | sudo tee -append /etc/vsftpd.conf

Now, when I go to FileZilla, I have access only to the home folder on the FTP. How do I get back the access?

I am trying to create a bootable USB. Currently on lsblk I have sdc -> sdc1, formatted to fat32.

I am trying now to save my iso with the following command:

sudo dd if=/dev/puppylinux.iso \ of=/dev/sdc bs=4M && sync status=progress

The error I am getting is:

dd: unrecognized operand ‘ of=/dev/sdc’

From all the searching I did, I can see that the of=...should be as I wrote it to be. What am I doing wrong?
