I am trying to open various tab at the same time using xdg-open my default browser is firefox.

The following line works (for one tab):

xdg-open https://stackoverflow.com

But this one does not:

xdg-open https://stackoverflow.com https://google.fr

the error thrown is:

xdg-open: unexpected argument 'https://google.fr'

Isn't it any way of passing various URL to xdg-open? Thanks in advance !

Context: I was thinking about making snapshot for safety reasons, so I downloaded Timeshift but once installed, I have to make a choice between Rsync and BTRFS Snapshots

Context: I'm trying to make an application automatically start when I login. For this I need to select the path for the application.

Here are the paths I already looked into:

• /sbin
• /usr/sbin
• /usr/local/bin
• /usr/share/

If this may help, the application I'm trying to find is called "ScreenCloud" and I downloaded it from the Ubuntu Software Center.

But I cannot find it, is there any way I can know where is installed a particular software? Because even if I found for this one, I would like to avoid having the same issue in the future.

I faced the following error message today:

Software index is broken

It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first.

So I openned a terminal and typed:

sudo apt-get install -f

But then it crashed, I had both the output of the terminal that stuck here:

everytime I login on my computer, a pop-up appear containing:

System program problem detected.

And no further informations, I mean I don't have any clues on what's wrong I can just report it or close the pop-up.

So I looked in various forum and found that

sudo rm /var/crash/*

Could be a solution, but I have 2 problems:

1. When I type this I have the following output:

rm: cannot remove '/var/crash/*': No such file or directory

2. I don't want to disable error reporting within Ubuntu, I just want it to precisely tell me what's wrong and not just display me an annoying pop-up without any informations.

I'm looking to Install Microsoft Office on Ubuntu 18.04. I recently heard about Lutris so I successfully installed it, but I cannot find where I can install software that are not games, because I simply want to install MS Office.

Am I doing something wrong?

more informations: my version of wine is up-to-date, and I also tryed to install MS Office 2013 through PlayOnLinux before, but it didn't worked out. So that's why I'm trying to install it now using Lutris.

So first of all I am using Libre Office with the following settings:

And so whan I am using it in half-screen mode (so using 2 applications side-by-side) I would like to center some text BUT I can't because the centering button is not available!

My current screen: as you can see the "center text" button is hidden and not available

but in "full screen" mode I can see it on the right:

Do you please know any ways to fix it ? It seems libre office is kind of non-responsive so that's kinda annoying to use.

I recently faced a bug while trying to install Microsoft Office 2013 though PlayOnLinux on Ubuntu 18.04.

The installation did a kind of infinite loop during the following step:

Please wait while the virtual drive is being created...

Do you please have any ideas how to fix it ?

I know how to switch from one virtual desktop to another, but it happen to me often that I open a 3rd virtual desktop not on purpose and even by doing a Super+Space I cannot remove it.

I can see 3 virtual desktop at the right side of my screen even if I use and want only 2 of them.

Do you know how can I delete the (n+1)-th virtual desktop ?

I followed the WineHQ Wiki in order to install WINE, So I typed all the following lines:

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 
wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key
sudo apt-key add winehq.key
sudo apt-add-repository 'deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ cosmic main' 
sudo apt update

and then when typing:

sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-stable

In order to get the packages of the Stable branch. I had the following output:

sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-stable

Most of the answer I found about this question are out of date so I was wondering is there is a new way to check it on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS ?

I tried most of the solution given here: Is there any standard tool for checking hardware and drivers?

Including typing:

sudo apt-get install checkbox

But then I have the following error:

However the following packages replace it:
  checkbox-ng

E: Package 'checkbox' has no installation candidate

And none seems to works, so do you have any ideas if there is a tool for Ubuntu 18.04 in order to automatically check the drivers ?

Context:

I am planning to make a Full Install USB from a Windows 10 computer in order to make a Ubuntu Bootable USB Stick.

So I followed each step of the Ubuntu tutorial but I face a problem at the "6. Write the ISO" Section.

• The documentation said to use a

Cluster size: 4096 bytes (Default)

While the default Cluster size in Rufus for the version 18.04.2 LTS amd64 of Ubuntu Desktop is:

Cluster size: 8192 bytes (Default)

Question:

Which Cluster size should I chose between 4096 bytes and 8192 bytes ?

After a lot of searches I couln't find official minimum required settings in order to make a Bootable USB.

In order to make a bootable USB (Full Install) for Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS was wondering what are the specifications needed?

1. What is the minimum recommanded storage capacity of the USB Key? 4GB? 8GB? 16GB?
2. Is the speed important ? Is USB 2.0 Enough? Is there an interest to buy a 3.1 GEN 1 just for it?

Hello, so as a developer currently studying I am working on a laptop under Windows 10 OS, so I would like to install Ubuntu OS on my daily laptop, the problem is that I know in some rare condition I will need to still have a working Windows 10 environment working for groups project and/or use of specific software.

So my question is the following: Is it better * to install Ubuntu and use a Windows 10 Virtual machine when needed or to use Windows 10 ans an Ubuntu VM running most of the time on it ?

*by better I mean depending on the information privacy and also the performances of the computer as I know some VM can be slow.

Knowing that I only have one location for the SSD I was thinking to use VMs but if I'm wrong and doing a Dual boot in your opinion is a better idea feel free to tell me.
