When I want to copy paste some files already in a destination directory, Ubuntu asks if I am sure I want to replace the original file as follows:

I would like to keep this pop up in my system except for one folder and all its subfolders. Meaning, for the given folder "Presentation" and all its subfolders, I would like that Ubuntu does not show the File conflict pop up and always applies "Replace". I know how to do that system wide, but is it possible to do it only for "Presentation" and no where else?

I have a .mp4 and a .srt for English subtitles. I would like to play my video and cast it to Chromecast. What software should I use?

On Google Chrome, I am able to Chromecast it but the subtitles are not displayed.

On VLC the subtitles are displayed but I could not find a cast option.

I have a GeForce RTX 3060 in an eGPU enclosure (Razer Core X) and running Ubuntu 20.04. I have it detected and working (nvidia-smi shows stats for the card), but none of the other tools sees it, such as nvidia-setting or the Nvidia X server GUI configuration tool. This also means 3rd party tools such as GreenWithEnvy doesn't recognize the card either. Because of this, I cannot overclock this card.

Nvidia-xconfig recognized the card and generated the appropriate xorg.conf file, and I also made sure I initialized it with --egpu --cool-bits=28 and --allow-empty-initial-configuration. The resulting xorg.conf file detects the NVIDIA device as shown here:

I'm not trying to use the card to drive a display. I have it set to be used for compute only, and the application does see and use it. However, I'd like to OC the memory and power for better mining performance.

In case it helps, I am using NVIDIA proprietary drivers 460. How would I go about OCing my RTX 3060 in an eGPU enclosure in Linux?

I'm trying to connect two external monitors as join displays with a hub, one with HDMI and the other one with VGA. My config is:

• Ubuntu 20.04 with a DELL XPS 7390.
• Graphics are Mesa Intel UHD Graphics (CML GT2)
• Hub Dell DA300

Both screens and cables work because I'm currently able to have both of them as one external monitor, my issue is having both of them at the same time for a total of three screens, using the VGA and HDMI outputs of my hub. When I plug both of them, one of them is dark and says "no signal".

My settings only show one screen resolution in Ubuntu 18.04 :

I tried the answer from this response but what I got is:

PRIME Displays cannot be controlled by nvidia-settings and must be configured by an external RandR capable tool.

That means I cannot control the displays thanks to nvidia settings. So I believe I have to use a RandR capable tool but I have no idea how. Must of all, I had no idea it'd be so difficult to change my screen resolution. How should I do it?

So basically, I'd like to do what's written in this answer from 2011 but for Ubuntu 18.04.

I'd like to type an Em-dash from anywhere in my Ubuntu. When I do:

1. Settings > Devices > Keyboards
2. then I go all the way down and click + to add a custom shortcut
3. I name it for instance Em dash
4. enter --. for the command and set the shortcut to Ctrl + Shift + 6

The shortcut doesn't seem to work in anyapp (Atom, Firefox, Terminal etc.). I tried other shortcuts like AltGr + Shift + 6 and I also restarted my computer to see if it'd work. It doesn't. Am I missing something?

I switched from MacOS to Ubuntu this weekend .

I'm used to a functionality I had with MacOS I want for all my apps in Ubuntu.

For any app in MacOS, you can search through the different commands within the app thanks to their names, as follow:

Here for instance, I searched for Close a tab in Chrome. Furthermore, Chrome gives me what is the corresponding shortcut for what I search, if it exists, and where it is in the different panes.

How can I add it to all my Ubuntu apps?

For instance, in LibreOffice Writer, I wanted to search for rounding corners of an image, but I couldn't find it thanks to the app.
