I am using Ubuntu server 20.04 on my server and today wanted to check what ports are open and found that neither iptables nor ufw are installed.
Is there some other firewall installed by default on Ubuntu server, or does Ubuntu just leave everything open by default?

The file is in a subfolder of Documents which is tracked by search. All files in this directory can be starred except for .odg files. I'm trying to figure out why this is.
These files were created by libreoffice Draw in Ubuntu.
Every time I run rsync to backup a blockchain, it starts from the beginning and tries to sync the whole thing, every time, even though there may only be a few blocks worth of data that is new. The rsync man page says, "It is famous for its delta-transfer algorithm, which reduces the amount of data sent over the network by sending only the differences between the source files and the existing files in the destination," but I cannot figure out how to get it to only update the new info that has been added to the blockchain. As the chain is very large, it is ridiculous to keep copying the whole thing every day. Can rsync backup only new data, and if so, how can I tell it to do so?
This what I am using:

I have a 64GB stick that was working fine. I started putting movies on it, and then suddenly, one day it becomes read only. chmod cannot change it. So I reformatted and started again. After 2 days it became read only again for no apparent reason. I reformatted again (FAT32 each time) because I have to plug it into a player that can't read ext4. And again it became read only. So it works for a couple of days after reformatting, then becomes read only.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Been through all the posts out there and almost all are outdated. Installed latest Wine stable + wine-gecko-2.47.1. I then downloaded Adobe Digital Editions 4.5. Installation in Wine went smoothly. By mistake I installed twice, so now I have 2 ADE icons in my software menu (cannot find them to delete the one). However, when I try to open it, nothing happens. No response and no errors.

Is the "PresentationFramework" the problem or a dependency missing? It's not very clear in the log error above.
I am trying to download my kobo books to add to Calibre.
I have tried this method and these rules to solve my problem, but it has no effect. I tried making the json in /etc/Chromium/policies/managed and also /etc/opt/chrome/policies/managed. I think it fails because I am using the snap version of Chromium and maybe the config files are read from somewhere else. So how to disable the Guest mode option in the snap version of Chromium? Maybe there is an easier way?

However, I noticed today that several video files that I had only changed the name of, were re-transferred in their entirety. This seems to contradict the above claim by rsync that it only updates the changes made. Have I made an error in my command that would cause a small text change to the title of a file to cause the re-tranfer of the entire file?
My command:
rsync -avz --delete -e ssh /files/tobe/transferrd [email protected]:/backup/location 1>>/logs/backup.log
I run my rsync backups without the --delete flag just in case something is deleted accidentally. In my logs with the -v flag I simply get informed of a change in the parent directory of the deleted file, so I cannot tell what file was affected. When I use the -vvv flag, I get no descriptive information that separates the deleted file from the rest of the files. Same when including --itemize-changes.
I am trying to find a way to get updated in my logs when a file was deleted on my host machine even though I do not want it deleted on my target machine. I want to be able to check what was deleted every so often before running the --delete flag manually. I want to run the rsync log info through a simple script to make a list of 'deleted' files (files deleted only on machine a but not machine b), but cannot find the information that basically says "a file was deleted on machine a but not making any changes to the backup on machine b.

After one of my recent updates, I noticed that my 3rd party repos were failing to update due to the NO_PUBKEY error from apt. I looked for hours to find a fix, but all fixes suggest using apt-key. However, that no longer works because it has been deprecated. So I manually copied one repo's keys from /usr/share/keyrings to /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d as a test and that seems to work. Now everything works for that app.
My question is: is there a new function to download keys from a keyserver instead of the apt-key function? Most sites have not realized this change and offer the apt-key command for their repo keys and that just returns errors now. And how to update my current third party repo keys as only they have the problem? Should I manually cp the keys as I mentioned above, or is there a more efficient solution?
EDIT: I am on 20.10. Apt-key works for 20.04 but not after that.

I first started by simply adding the dns address of the server I wanted to use in Network Manager, but that didn't work.
Then I tried editing /etc/systemd/resolved.conf:

That didn't work either. Browser is unusable. However, when I revert to my ips dns or other simple dns servers (and comment out all entries in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf), everything works fine. I have tried other DoT servers also, none of them work for me. I checked other posts on this subject but they all seem to refer to 18.04. I am on 20.10 and things have changed since then. I am not sure if I should be editing through netplan or /etc/systemd/resolved.conf. Actually, I thought this would be a simple procedure of just inserting the ip of the dns server into Network Manager, but obviously it is not.
I re-organized my router setup and everything got a new ip (I am discussing internal ip's here). So, I changed the server's static ip in netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml.

This is where I may have made a mistake, I then kept changing things trying to make it work and forgot how it was when I started and it was working with the other ip. Its strange because all I did was change the previous ip to the new ip originally. Internet did not work after that.
I have KVM installed on this server with another 2 virtual machines. I am hoping someone can help me fix up my netplan file and get things working again.
Lock screen does not work on Ubuntu after upgrade to 20.04. I have it turned on in tweaks and it does not work. When I click "lock" the screen simply reloads and disables some extensions in the process. It does not work at all. How can I fix this?

I am on 19.04. If it is not possible to change the font only for the clock, I would like to change the font size for the entire top bar. I have tried changing "stage" in gnome-shell.css and also the TOP BAR section, but the font size remains the same in my bar. I have found other answers here that answer this question but those answers refer to older versions and do not refer to GTK, and so don't work.
I do not want to change the font of everything else as would happen by setting "large text" in accessibility, or using the scaling slider in tweak tool. I am curious if there is another way to do this besides creating a custom CSS override for the shell theme. I only want to enlarge the time (as I cannot see it), and if that is not possible, only the top bar.
I am looking for the location of the "Starred" directory that is listed at the top of the sidebar in Nautilus on Ubuntu 19.04. I can find nothing under the name "Starred" on my system.
Since the starred folder is built in and I cannot remove it from Nautilus, I figured I'd use it rather than make my own Bookmark for most used files. But it seems like I am limited to only adding files from the fist level of the built in Directories to the starred folder. However, I would like to add files from other dirs also. When I right click on files outside the first level of the built in dirs, I do not get a "starred" option. Also, when I look for the starred directory to manually add things, I cannot find it.
Is there a way to add files from outside the the first level of built in directories to Starred in Nautilus? Is the Starred folder maybe supposed to be used for something else?
Im using 2 appImages vlc and kdenlive. Both do not respect my global font settings and the fonts in the apps are really tiny and I can't read them. Does anyone know how to make them follow my global settings in Ubuntu or how to set their config files directly. Thanks
