This is a question strictly out of curiosity.

Since Unity was 'discontinued' there has been very little globals menu's around. I know KDE has one that does not always work, and Ubuntu Unity say they have some issues with Thunderbird which stopped support because it was difficult (supposedly).

Why is that exactly? I have never found any actual articles on the topic.

I read something online somewhere (at some time :p) that gnome programmers thought the code was ugly.

Is it not done because there is little agreement on how it should be done? Or is it just a general disinterest to have a global menu.

Really just curious :)

After an update for some reason the close, minimize etc. buttons are doubling instead of moving in firefox. This also happens in the software center.

Is this fixable?

I just installed Ubuntu 20.04 and I have a problem with the Ubuntu Software app only showing the editors picks. It finds stuff i search for, but I like browsing for it.

This was fine when the install was fresh, but after the update it broke.

Interestingly this isn't the first time it has happened to me, also did the same with 18.04, but last time I was not able to fix it. Any help is good.

I'm stuck trying to figure out what kind of certificate I need to create, and how to create it to sign PDF's with LibreOffice. I created a GnuPG key, that did not work. I tried to create a private key (through the 'Passwords and keys' app), but it won't let me.

Where am i going wrong here?

I am trying to make a folder unsearchable by the activities search. It used to be possible in unity when I was using that, but now that I am using Gnome, I cannot find anything that resembles it in the settings.

Ubuntu 19.10

My laptop has a wonky trackpoint that keeps on moving the mouse around.

When using xorg, i can use this command to shut it off: xinput -set-prop "AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint Stick" "Device Enabled" 0

seems like xinput is not a thing on wayland? A quick search gave me libinput, but libinput gives me no possibility to shut down the trackpoint (as far as i can see)

So how would I turn off the trackpoint in wayland? Or is there maybe another way of doing this than xinput/libinput?

I have one big question in regards of snaps. Is it sharing libraries? The reason why I ask is because that was one of the things that I was so impressed by when starting with ubuntu, that it was sharing libraries, and therefore saves space on the disk. Does snaps still do this? or am I totally wrong about apt?
