I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04.1 on a Lenovo ThinkPad L480 with an Opal 2.0 compatible NVMe SSD inside. As far as I understand, the drive is always encrypted, but I need to set a password so that the encrytion key itself is also protected.

Questions:

  1. Is my assumption about the encryption correct?
  2. If so, how can I set that password?

In the past I installed Node.js. Now I tried updating it following this guide and ended up having two versions of it, node on version 0.10.7 and nodejs on version 0.12.7. To clear this up I wanted to remove it completely and reinstall it. apt-get remove nodejs worked fine, but not apt-get remove node:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree       
Reading state information... Done
Package 'node' is not installed, so not removed
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

But:

$ which node
/usr/local/bin/node

Is it safe to remove this file or will I have leftovers lurking around somewhere else?

Since I do not use them at this time I tried to uninstall virtualenv and virtualenvwrapper via the Ubuntu Software Center. Now whenever I open a console I get the following error message:

  File "<string>", line 1, in <module>
ImportError: No module named virtualenvwrapper.hook_loader
virtualenvwrapper.sh: There was a problem running the initialization hooks. If Python could not import the module virtualenvwrapper.hook_loader, check that virtualenv has been installed for VIRTUALENVWRAPPER_PYTHON=/usr/bin/python and that PATH is set properly.

Also the directory ~/.virtualenvs/ is still present.

How can I bring my system back to a clean and functional state as before the installation of virtualenv and virtualenvwrapper?

As suggested I checked the following files for occurrences of virtualenv each with a negative result:

~/.bashrc
~/.profile
/etc/profile
/etc/profile.d/*
/etc/environment
software-center
