I have UFW setup and enough rules to allow me to be able to do what I need to do on a regular basis except for one thing. To be able to access anything on my LAN (NAS, printer, Chromecasts, etc.) I have to turn the firewall off briefly since I can't figure out what has to be open to be able to access those things.

Is there a way to make a rule to allow access to everything on my LAN? If not, would it be safe to allow access in and out to the IP address of my NAS, printer, etc.? I have everything setup to have static IP's so this is really easy for me to do as long as it would be safe. I have been using Ubuntu for a few years but I am just starting to dive into UFW a little more as well as networking in general. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have always had a network share with my nas (Alt-F) setup in Ubuntu. To access it I allow port 137&138udp in and out and 139&445tcp in and out within ufw. Since upgrading to 20.04 those rules don't work anymore. I have to turn the firewall off to be able to see the share. Once it is mounted and the folder opened I can turn the firewall back on and it works as normal but to be able to see it on the network or open the main folder initially I have to turn off the firewall. Is there another port that now has to be opened in 20.04? The other strange thing is that if I turn SMB1 off on my NAS I can't see the share in Ubuntu, if I turn off SMB2 I can see it but I can't mount any shares, so both SMB1 and SMB2 both have to be activated so that I can see the share (SMB1) and mount it (SMB2). I have always had this working from versions 10-18.04 and in 20.04 is the first time I have had this issue.

I did a clean install of 20.04. In files I can see my NAS but can't access it as it does not give the password dialog box.

There are other posts saying to modify the smb.conf file to make this work but I don't seem to have this file with a fresh install. Is there a way to fix this or is this version of Ubuntu basically useless to anyone with an older but perfectly functional NAS?

My onboard LAN died the other day so I installed a new D-Link DGE-530T rev. C1 PCI card and disabled the onboard LAN in the bios. My computer detects the D-Link card (ethO) but will not connect to the network. If I delete the 70-persistent-net.rules file and any swap files and restart my computer it works fine. As soon as I reboot or hibernate my computer though it again will not connect. Am I missing something or does Ubuntu not support this card? A quick response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. P.S. I am a Ubuntu nube so a relatively detailed description of how to fix this would be great. Thanks again.

I have set the rules in ufw for Transmission but when I try to use it it will not transfer and it also says the port is closed when checked under preferences.

If I turn the UFW firewall off it still says that the port is closed but it transfers fine. I then can turn the UFW back on and it continues to work. I have tried setting up port forwarding in my router (Asus rtn12 using DD-WRT 17990) but that has no effect on the closed port message or transferring.

Is there a specific port that should be opened in UFW to allow the transfers or am I just missing something?

I'm a linux nube so please explain any answers a little more thoroughly than normal. Thanks in advance.
