I would like to trace systemwide tracepoints. Perf list tells me that the following tracepoints are available:

I understand that I should trace the tracepoints with

 perf record -e TRACEPOINT -a

for a systemwide trace. However, I am told that the tracepoint is an unsupported tracepoint:

perf record -e block:block_io_start -a      
event syntax error: 'block:block_io_start'
                     \___ unsupported tracepoint

libtraceevent is necessary for tracepoint support
Run 'perf list' for a list of valid events

I installed all libtraceevent* pacakges. My kernel is:

I currently run plex on a Beelink running ubuntu, and to date, all files associated with each movie (movie file, associated images, and subtitles) are all in the same parent directory. for the most part that's okay, but for movies with multiple subtitles, it can get messy. e.g.

It seems that now plex will find subtitles places in a "subs" or "subtitles" folder. So in order to tidy things up, how can I recursively go through the parent movie directory, and for each individual movie folder, move any subtitles files into a "subtitles" folder like so?

Even better would be the option to only move if not already in a subtitles folder...

Why is it that so many installed programs that do not show up in the Menu ?

I am using Ubuntu_Mate 24.04.

I try to use Synaptic Package Manager,but many programs are not listed.

When that occurs I have do a search for how to start the program.

I am willing to add programs to the Menu manually.

I was led to believe that the prior problems of running a Nvidia card were fixed under Wayland in Ubuntu 24.10.

So I upgraded from 24.04 to 24.10 and ran under Xorg, solved some various upgrade issues, and it seemed to run fine.

Then I enabled Wayland. With some minor problems, it ran fine. I decided to put the Nvidia into "Performance mode", and it seemed fine until I checked nvidia-smi and noted that only gnome-shell was being accelerated.

Here I show via the cli that the Nvidia Performance Mode is selected...

Here is show the GUI showing Performance Mode under Xorg...

Here is nvidia-smi running under Xorg... note the full compliment of processes that are accelerated... whereas under Wayland it only shows gnome-shell...

So my question is... is this a Wayland or Nvidia problem? What steps might I take to further troubleshoot this and fix it?

Update: So I upgraded from 24.04 to 24.10 and ran under Xorg, solved some various upgrade issues, and it seemed to run fine.

I find that I can't open folders on my Desktop, in Xorg, in "Performance Mode". "On-Demand" works fine.

I'm a new Ubuntu user, but I've been using Mint for about 10 years. I've just installed Ubuntu Studio 24.10 on a new-to-me Thinkpad T490, so I have a Kubuntu-based configuration. One of the first things I wanted to do was to install TLP to control battery charge levels as I have done on my older Thinkpad.

When I started to install from Discover, I saw messages about package removal that made me uncomfortable, so I did not continue. It wants to remove 2 packages related to ubuntustudio-desktop. I was concerned I would be losing some core functionality. See attached image for the exact messages. The packages are ubuntustudio-desktop 24.10.18 and ubuntustudio-desktop-core 24.10.18. It also wanted to remove power-profiles-daemon, which didn't concern me very much.

Installing TLP - package removal messages:

Starting an install from apt results in the same messages.

Can anyone explain what's happening there?

My system is dual boot, so I booted Windows 10 and installed the Lenovo Vantage application, and from there I could set the battery charge levels. I verified that it continues to use those levels when I'm not in Windows. So the immediate need is taken care of, but I'm still curious about the package removals; whether it's benign, or whether some kind of bug.

I did boot into the 24.10 live USB ISO again, installed TLP, (those ubuntustudio packages apparently were removed from the live session) and I did not see any obvious problem with Ubuntu Studio. But I can't reboot that system; it would be a new live session, so I don't know what would happen after reboot.

Next I booted a 24.04 live session and started the install of TLP. In 24.04, it only wants to remove power-profiles-daemon; the 2 ubuntustudio packages are not mentioned.
