ubuntu 18.04 software-properties-gtk failing when I try to open the software&update it doesn't open and when I tried to sudo software-properties-gtk

it return this error

dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name :1.136 was not provided by any .service files

I tried to reinstall software-properties-gtk but it didn't work I also tried to reinstall python-six packages as recommended by other blogs but also didn't solve my issue.

In the Software & Updates app in Ubuntu 20.04, in the Additional Drivers tab, there is an NVIDIA Server Driver option that I don't remember seeing in previous Ubuntu releases. The package name is nvidia-driver-440-server.

What are the differences between this and nvidia-driver-440?

I just bought a USB-AC56 Asus dual-band wirless-ac 1300 adapter. It works out of the box for Windows. But on Ubuntu you need to install the drivers.

the output of lsusb relevant to the adapter:

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0b05:17d2 ASUSTek Computer, Inc. USB-AC56 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8812AU] 

I was told by Asus to use the following: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/USB-AC56/DR_USB_AC56_425_Linux.zip. How do I install the drivers? Asus gives no further instructions besides the link nor a way to uninstall.

I also read that the following github project might work better: https://github.com/diederikdehaas/rtl8812AU

Are these drivers better? Are they even the right one? I don't want to install something that I cannot undo. Does anyone know how to uninstall the dkms package?

Is this correct?

Please help verify what needs to be done for us all!

I'm a new user to Ubuntu, but a novice/moderate experienced Linux user. I am getting strange Bluetooth behavior, and I found out my new hardware is Intel chipset that is both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. However, under Additional Drivers in Software and Updates, the problem only shows up as my Wi-Fi.

The driver backport is completely blacked out. That backport should have fixed the issue, especially since the kernel has compatibility with this Intel chipset.

Also, the Wi-Fi is working fine. Bandwidth tests show it is working at full speed.

Ideas how to troubleshoot from the command line to manually use the driver backport?

I am running Ubuntu 18.04.

When I boot up my machine I keep seeing the same error over and over in my terminal, every few seconds

Someone told me that it might be graphics related, even though i am not sure of that. I am using the propetary drivers for NVIDIA, version 396.
