New nautilus is not using file-roller any more by default, it has switched to its native expression, but I want to use file-roller on right click.
I found this answer, which worked in Ubuntu 17.10. But nautilus-actions package is not yet Ubuntu 18.04's official repositories.
So is there any other method for this purpose?
I'm trying to inspect an APK of an Android app I'm developing. I was able to open and decompress APK files using the Archive Manager application (file-roller, the standard app for compressed files), but I don't know if it's because of the latest Android Studio IDE changes or if it has to do with Ubuntu 18.04 that now I can't.
If I try to open an APK file with this Archive Manger I fails with a dialog saying:
Could not open "app-debug.apk"
Archive type not supported.
In Ubuntu 16.04 I could compress a file or folder by right clicking on it and the File Roller/Archive Manager window would pop up allowing me to set a password or split the archive into volumes.
In Ubuntu 18.04 this functionality is gone and is substituted by a Nautilus window not giving you any options other than the name or the archive type.
How can I reinstate file roller/ archive manager to work with Nautilus, in Ubuntu 18.04?
It is the same problem as How to make nautilus use file-roller in 17.10 like in 17.04? but the difference is that the package nautilus-actions is not available in Ubuntu 18.04, so I cannot proceed with the answer to that question.
Opening an archive, I double-clicked on the "Name" column to expand it since the file names were long, but that made the column disappear.
I tried right clicking and looked for any options and searched the web but I can't seem to be able to find a way to recover the disappeared column. Closing the application as well as restarting doesn't affect this.
Note, I have indicator-appmenu uninstalled. Could it be that the archive manager is supposed to have a menu that I'm not able to see because of this? (I see the menu on every other application).

The "Properties" field refers to the properties of the archive, not the archive manager.
On the right click menu (in Nautilus, desktop, etc), there is a "compress" option. Is there any way to make "zip" the default format for this?
