I'm trying to inspect an APK of an Android app I'm developing. I was able to open and decompress APK files using the Archive Manager application (file-roller, the standard app for compressed files), but I don't know if it's because of the latest Android Studio IDE changes or if it has to do with Ubuntu 18.04 that now I can't.
If I try to open an APK file with this Archive Manger I fails with a dialog saying:
Could not open "app-debug.apk"
Archive type not supported.
Formerly, I was using atom installed from the Ubuntu official repos. I could easily open a project (folder) typing atom .
I recently have installed it using the snap package that Ubuntu provides. Everything looks fine, except for if I try to launch it as I used to do it I get the following error:
> $ atom .
No command 'atom' found, did you mean:

However, I can launch it normally from the unity launcher.
This is Ubuntu 16.04 and Unity as DE.
is there a way to properly integrate Android Studio with Unity Desktop Environment?
I'm not looking for help about how to install android studio on Ubuntu, neither to add a desktop entry in order to have it on the launcher. I've already installed it following the Android instructions and I have it up and working.
What I'm missing though, it's an actual integration with the features of the Unity DE: menu bar shown inside the Window's title bar (global menu), commands easily accessible through Alt key (HUD support) and, hopefully, Progress status & Badges in the unity launcher.
I haven't myself tried to use Ubuntu Make to install android studio and see if it results in better results, maybe someone who has can confirm it?
I need a tool to get the width and height of an arbitrary window.
Ideally, that tool would deduct the size of the Ubuntu's menu bar.
I've just bought a wireless combo keyboard + mouse, specifically Logitech mk270. Everything is working out-of-the-box, except for some multimedia keys, specifically the ones for the audio and the home one.
I've tried to configure it in the shortcut keyboard settings of ubuntu, when I assign volume mute to the proper key ubuntu indeed recognize that key and actually writes "Audio Mute" as key name. Same with volume up, volume down and Play/Pause.
Also, doing a the "System testing" ubuntu tool, the test says ok when I press those requested keys, so it's actually received by ubuntu.
Another interesting thing is that the home key is assigned by me in the shortcuts to open mi home folder, but it doesn't, it actually changes my current web page with my home-browser page. It looks like the keyboard doesn't care about what the system has defined to do with that keys and they do what the keyboard has defined them to do.
More info: assigning another key, like "Pause / Inter" for "Play/Pause" action or "Bloq Scroll" for "Mute Audio" action indeed work as expected.
EDIT: Curiously, same keyboard and mouse in another machine with the same system configuration: ubuntu 14.04 64 bits, it's working out-of-the-box...what's going on?
EXTRA: nano receiver came with this combo; but I'm realizing it's not compatible with Solaar package (my usb id is this: 046d:c534, not supported by Solaar) . Any work around for this?
I've just installed cpufreqd in a fresh installation of Ubuntu 14.04 through:
sudo apt-get install cpufreqd
After that, I tried to execute it by sudo cpufreqd. But nothing happens (neither error or indicator displayed). Even I can't see any new process in the system monitor.
Then I installed cpufrequtils through sudo apt-get install cpufrequtils and I tried again to execute sudo cpufreqd with the same (no) result.
I know there exist indicator-cpufreq, I was using it for some time; but I realized that I need something more configurable and complete like cpufreqd.
Similar alternatives to this are welcome.
I can't believe that there was not a question or open issue for this before.
I've recently installed ubuntu 14.04 along with my favourite webapps; and I, unfortunately, realised that they're not integrated with firefox/chromium anymore. Instead, they use a minimal browser which I am not interested in.
Within the few reasons why I'm still using unity and I haven't moved to gnome or xfce, it's the unity-webapps. I haven't known any other OS or Desktop Environment (DE) which integrates the internet webapps in the computer and, at same time, keeps the power of the web-browser and the computer-using style.
I loved to be able to have tens of opened tabs & to be in one-click far away to my facebook tab. And I loved to create new tabs in the same windows that I used to have my open webapp. No mention of all the capabilities which firefox provides me...
So, is there any workaround to get back the unity-webapps integrated in firefox/chromium? I've already checked the system settings and the unity tweak tool with no luck.
The major issue of the unity-webapps was there are few of them, they need more features and more stability. If ubuntu doesn't fix this, I'll strongly think in moving to another DE. C'mon Canonical, I'm not using a tablet, I have got 6GB of RAM and I want to see many apps and many pages at the same time.

Note it's not about files, It's just links and I'm looking for a manner to do it properly, easily and quickly.
It could be preferably through internet. But other possibilities would be through: phone network, bluetooth, LAN (wi-fi) or QR code.
My machine is a Lenovo G580 with these specifications:
I'm on ubuntu 13.04 64 bits and I've set up bumblebee.
The computer gets too heat (more than 70ºc) when I leave the cpufreq in "ondemand" mode and it shouldn't since I'm not doing too intensity-CPU stuff.
I think that it's due to excessive use of intel hd graphics for rendering the screen, because if i put the frequency to 2.9GHz, the temperature is still ok; but I leave the cpufreq to switch the cpu freq, it warms up.
A workaround could use the nvidia graphics card for unity and firefox (things I've always opened), something I don't know how to do it.
Also, i would like to know if, eventually, the optimus nvidia technology (to change automatically from integrated to dedicated GPUs depending on the current graphics/video use.) it's going to be supported in Linux, either proprietary or open source way.
I know the X.org server run is executed with certain value of bpp, 8bpp by default i think.
But how can I find out the actual bits per pixel using into my framebuffer while i'm on linux? is there any command that can get it?

I'm in Ubuntu 13.04 64 bits and I've noticed that my windows change of workspace themselves, that's very annoying and I want to fix it.
I couldn't say when it changes exactly. But I've noticed that they changes when I press Alt+Tab to change the window, suddenly, my window has changed of workspace!! It specially happen when the window to I switch with alt+tab if it was moved in the screen by me, above all if it was moved near to the edges of the screen.
It has happened from the beginning of my installation of Ubuntu and I've found anyway of fix it in compizConfig neither ubuntu tweaky tool.
