I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on a Surface Book with dual boot, and I can't get the ethernet connection to work. Although the wifi connects, I keep getting the "activation of network connection failed" error for the ethernet.

But I suppose this is not near enough information to investigate. Please let me know what else is useful to know in this case, and I'll add that to the question.

PS: I saw this question, but I have all the updates installed, and I still can't connect, so this is not a duplicate.

UPDATE: Before turning off the computer, I turned off the cable connection in Settings. Today when I turned it on, the ethernet button is gone:

Surface Book model: Microsoft Surface Book 13.5 inch Touchscreen Laptop (Intel Core i7-6600U 2.6 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, NVIDIA 1 GB Integrated Graphics, Windows 10 Pro)

I'd like to know all the connections my system is making to the internet. I tried netstat but that shows a lot of connections - all of which aren't applicable I think. Can it be displayed like top does for processes ?

I'm a little security conscious and would like to know all the incoming and outgoing connections happening on my system.

I'm trying to use apt-get command on a network that uses a proxy, like this:

We use 10.114.7.7 on port 80 as Http-proxy, and after that an authentication window comes up, asking for user name and password.

Our Username/Domain is like this: [email protected]

I'm wondering, how i can use http_proxy=http://User:Pass@Proxyserver:Port in this situation!? I also tried both, 10.114.7.7 and urmia.ac.ir as Proxy server but no result!

Instead of going to sites like speedtest.net, I want to check my current Internet speed from the terminal on Ubuntu. How can I do it?

In my previous question I was asking about setting up vpnc connection. I've installed network-manager-vpnc so now I can configure all this stuff right from network manager gui.

So the question is how to figure out what Address, Netmask and Gateway should I use to pass ONLY this trafic through vpn.

As a basis I have got an ip and a port of the external service which I want to use through vpnc. So inernet and other traffic should go as always through ethernet or wifi.

• Port: 1433 (this is sql server actually)
