Keyboard interaction seems so broken to me the I must be doing something silly.

Simple scenario: <Ctrl>-<Alt>-T and I get a new terminal. I click "Terminal" and "Reset" and the terminal resets. So far, so good.

Same scenario, using only the keyboard: <Ctrl>-<Alt>-T and I get a new terminal. I'd like to access the "Terminal" menu with <Alt>-T, but that doesn't work. If I access it with the mouse, I'd like to trigger "Reset" by typing r. Doesn't work, either. However, if I press a cursor key (up or down), typing r works.

Now, why doesn't <Alt>-T access the "Terminal" menu and why doesn't r run the "Reset" command (without cursor keys to nudge it) and how can I get this very, very, very basic and widely used interaction style to work?

Or to put it another way, I want to "Paste" with <Alt>-E p instead of <shift>-<control>-V. How?

I am using Xubuntu 18.04.

This question specifically pertains to Xubuntu (in my case: 18.04):

I frequently see myself first pressing Ctl+L in order to let the open file or the save as dialogue let me enter a full name.

In fact, I often have some Thunar open and there I first do Ctl+C to copy (the full path) to the scratchpad in order to paste it from there to some file open dialogue or to some save as dialogue (in the latter case to modify the file name part before actually storing).

This approach guarantees that I use similar file names for similar things (e.g. just change a date part in them or other parts differing from an existing sample).

It would fit best to my habits if the box letting me enter a full path or just a filename, if that relates to the shown directory, would be shown rightaway instead of the so-called breadcrumb navigation.

I have this path I want to navigate to in the UI. /usr/local/sbin

How can I do that with a couple clicks in the UI?

Often Files shows the path as a dropdown. How can I select the path so I can copy it?

I'm having trouble understanding how the files work in Ubuntu, especially since it lists differently from Windows' command prompt and PowerShell. For example, when I go to the top most directory and list the files, this is what I get in Ubuntu:

I want to go to documents to use Valgrind to compile/debug an EXE file I created, however, this is rather difficult to navigate, considering the Windows counter part is completely different. When I go into "usr" on Ubuntu, it doesn't display the expected filed as "Users" in Windows. How can I do this?

cd /home/$USER/Documents/

returns:

bash: cd: /root/Documents: No such file or directory

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 with GNOME 3. How can I show all open windows of a certain application using the sidebar (aka Ubuntu Dock)? Right now I have to right-click and select "all windows" to see my other open windows.

Is there a quicker way to do this?
