I love the install of 18.04 and I also work with blender3d a great deal. I need the CUDA toolkit in order to render with my GPU instead of my CPU.

I have read that it's critical that I get the right toolkit or could have some pretty bad issues. Just want to confirm that it is available for Ubuntu 18.04.

Also, where to get it and confirm its the right one?

Currently trying to compile a simple program given in OpenCL from this website. It will give me the required DeviceInfo that I need. After simply invoking a make, I get the error below: 

sharan@sharan-X550CC:~/opencl-ex/Ex1$ make 
g++ DeviceInfo.cpp -I ../../Cpp_common  -lOpenCL -o DeviceInfo
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lOpenCL
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
Makefile:23: recipe for target 'DeviceInfo' failed
make: *** [DeviceInfo] Error 1

Now I have installed using the instructions from this website. However, I still the get the error above.

How can I solve this error?

I downloaded intel_sdk_for_opencl_2016_ubuntu_6.0.0.1049_x64, tried to run install.sh but it says Unsupported OS, so I then read somewhere that I needed to make .deb file from one of the RPM files, I did it with 2:

opencl-1.2-devel_6.0.0.1049-2_amd64.deb

opencl-1.2-intel-devel_6.0.0.1049-2_amd64.deb

Installed them both with sudo dpkg -i, but I still don't have the libOpenCL.so that I need

Now I'm stuck... :(

How to compile and run open cl codes on intel i5 processors having intel hd 4000 gpu unit??? Open cl has been istalled in /opt/intel/opencl and versionis ubuntu 12.04. Any help would be of great help... Thanks

Background: I'm a 3D artist (as a hobby) and have recently started using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as a dual-boot with Windows 7. It's running on my a fairly new 64-bit Toshiba laptop with an nVidia GeForce GT 540M GPU (graphics card). It also, however has Intel Integrated Graphics (which I suspect Ubuntu's been using).

So, when I render my 3D scenes to images on Windows, I am able to choose between using my CPU or my nVidia GPU (faster). From the 3D application, I can set the GPU to use either CUDA or OpenCL. In Ubuntu, there's no GPU option.

After doing (too much?) research on the issues with Linux and the nVidia Optimus technology, I am slightly more enlightened, but a lot more confused.

I don't care one bit about the Optimus technology, as battery life is not by any means an issue for me.

Here's my question: What can I do to be able to use CUDA-utilizing programs (such as Blender) on my nVidia GPU in Ubuntu? Will I need nVidia drivers? (I have heard they don't play nicely with Optimus setups on Linux.) Is there at least a way to use OpenCL on my GPU in Ubuntu?
