I am using ubuntu 20.04 focal 64bit. Pre installed network manager is giving me headache. It suddenly drops wifi connection. On scanning again it shows no visible network. The input command

lshw -C network

gives output

*-network DISABLED
description: Wireless interface

while searching for the solution i saw WICD solves the problem but how do i install on my laptop. INPUT 

sudo apt install wicd

OUTPUT

E: package 'wicd' has no installation candidate

On my Ubuntu Eoan laptop, I find that systemd-resolved sporadically inexplicably fails to respond to local DNS requests to 127.0.0.53 even when requests to my router's DNS server still work, so I want to keep things simple and cut off systemd-resolved.

(Specifically, after the WiFi disconnects and then reconnects, the local DNS server at 127.0.0.53 provided by systemd-resolved in /etc/resolv.conf stops responding to requests until I manually 'systemctl restart systemd-resolved'.)

I'm using a Wireless network with DHCP with wicd, normally controlling it with wicd-gtk. How can I configure my system properly so that under a WiFi connection with DHCP, I'll use the DNS server assigned by the DHCP? I've disabled the systemd-resolved service but that seemed insufficient. That just left behind a /etc/resolv.conf symlinked to a non-existent /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf. Even if I remove that, a /etc/resolv.conf file gets created by NetworkManager pointing to the useless 127.0.0.53 when I reconnect to the WiFi. Even if I remove that file and stop NetworkManager and then reconnect to the WiFi, I get no /etc/resolv.conf, so DNS lookups have no server to use.

How can I configure wicd or my system's network settings properly to do the normal setting up of the DNS server in addition to the setting up of the local IP address, subnet and gateway under the WiFi DHCP? I normally use wicd-gtk to manually select a WiFi to connect to. Also, there's no problem with the WiFi, as other devices have no problems and previously with systemd-resolved running it sometimes worked and sometimes didn't work. Also, I'm trying to avoid using NetworkManager because I'm using xmonad without a system-tray so I can't easily use the NetworkManager system-tray GUI.

One thing that looks quite very suspicious to me in the system log after I connected to the WiFi is that systemd-resolved did not restart after dhclient got a DHCPACK. systemd-resolved got started just before that when presumably the network was still not ready. So, it seems that /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved is not working as intended.

I'm encountering a connection issue to my university WiFi network that I cannot solve: when attempting to connect, I get the following message with dmesg -T : 

[ven. oct. 11 12:32:04 2019] wlan0: deauthenticating from X by local choice (Reason: 3=DEAUTH_LEAVING)

This problem has already been pointed out in the forum, but none of the solutions I tried worked:

  • Disabling the powersave for WiFi (in /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf set wifi.powersave = 2 ).
  • Changing from NetworkManager to WICD.

  • Adding the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf:

    net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1

None of these worked.

I am currently making use of a Wired Broadband. By default NetworkManager shows that the Auto Ethernet is connected. I was unable to browse through any websites in the browser. I had to disconnect & connect the Auto Ethernet several times in NetworkManager or restart Ubuntu to get it fixed. But following these steps is quiet annoying as this issue happens very frequently.

I browsed through the Internet and got to know that WICD Network Manager fixes this issue. Earlier I have been using Ubuntu 12.04 where the same issue was fixed by making use of WCID Network Manager.

Recently I upgraded to 13.10 and as I got the same network issue in default NetworkManager, I have installed WICD NetworkManager but when I try to open WCID, I get an alert message saying,

Could not connect to wicd's D-Bus interface. Check the wicd log for error messages.

When I click on OK, I get the same message again and when I click on OK again I get the following message,

Error connecting to wicd service via D-Bus. Please ensure the wicd service is running.

Any help to fix this issue is greatly appreciated as this issue was annoying me since I installed 13.10

I've recently moved my /home to another computer (keeping all configuration files), with a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10.

After Installation I've installed wicd and ndiswrapper, to get my Internet Connection up and running. However, after changing /etc/network/interfaces from

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

To

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

and running sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart to get wlan0 set up, wicd just suddenly connected... to my modem. Without supplying any information about the modem whatsoever. Of course wicd creates a local directory at ~/.wicd/, but that directory is empty, and the temporary global configuration at /var/lib/wicd/configurations/ didn't exist due to fresh installation of ubuntu.

So what's the deal? Where did wicd get the ESSID and the WPA Key?

There hasn't been any activity in this question, but it's still open (and even worth some rep)!
