I recently used the Adobe Customization Wizard to create a custom transforms (.mst) file for the latest version of Acrobat Reader DC and deployed it to our network. Today I discovered that the customizations are blocking Sharepoint documents on our own intranet from opening. It was a single checkbox I had clicked by mistake. I have corrected the error and updated the distribution points.

The problem I have is that Windows Installer doesn't let you apply an .mst file after-the-fact. You have to do a complete uninstall/reinstall of the application to apply a different set of transforms. SCCM has no option to do this. If I update or create a new application, SCCM will just detect that it's already been installed and won't apply the fix since it's the same version of the same application.

The only thing I can think of at this point is to "tag" each computer with a .txt file or something and use that as part of the detection method. But of course then I have to use a script to do the uninstall/reinstall and tag the machine and that'll take all day.

Is there a simpler solution?

I'm using SCCM 1607, BTW. The workstations are a blend of 32- and 64-bit Win7 and Win10 computers.

I need a self contained msi file to put in the SYSVOL folder so I can roll it out via Group Policy. I have seen various instructions of how to do this (e.g. http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/reader-x-10-1-3-mui - steps 1-5) which all seem to give the following instructions:

1. Download the latest full release (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.0/en_US/AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi)
2. Download the latest full release (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.4/misc/AdbeRdrUpd1014.msp)

3. Do an admin install of the full release:

   msiexec /a AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi

4. Slipstream the patch into the install that's just been created:

   msiexec /a {path to install}\AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd1014.msp

Hey presto.

The problem is that I'm left with a small msi file (only about 2MB where-as it should be in the region of 45MB) and 4 folders containing the dependency files. Sure enough, when I try to install the msi from the SYSVOL location, it tells me it can't access the dependency files.

I don't have a great deal of experience in this, can anyone tell me where I've gone wrong or if there's a final step to package everything together?

I want to update Adobe Reader remotely on a Mac through the terminal. Flash Player had a .pkg file in the .dmg, so installing that wasn't difficult. There is no .pkg file in Adobe Reader updates.

Does any one have a handy method for performing these updates? I see some .sh files in the .dmg but it is not clear what the order is for running them.

There is a script at AdbeRdrUpdate*_all_xxx.app/Contents/Resources/InstallUpdates.sh and it takes 4 commandline arguments like:

./InstallUpdates.sh app-dir app-name current-dir payloadnumber

I'll try something like:

./InstallUpdates.sh /Applications AdobeReader ./ 0

Symptoms: The user cannot open new PDF's. When we look on the TS process list, we can see multiple acrord32.exe's, one for each attempt to open a PDF after the hang occurs. The user/Citrix Control Panel can not see the process. After a while an error saying referring to the DDE service may pop up, but this is bogus error message as far as we can tell. (We have tried enabling the service too.)

We have been able to figure out that this happens consistently when the user uses the "x" on the right click "drop down" menu from the Windows taskbar in Vista/7 to close Reader, but it seems it can also occur when closed in other ways, although rarely.

It seems that only a few 5-10 of our 1000+ users get this error at all, and about 2-3 of them get it a lot more than the rest. This is at least partially because of patterns of use.

We run Windows 2003 R2 fully patched as of now. We run Presentation Server 4.5. We have tried Adobe Reader 6, 7, 8, 9, X. Same error on all.

Information on this is scarce, but we have been able to find a few posts on it. Most not offering any solution. The only solution suggested is to install the v 12 Xen (Citrix) client, but that doesn't help.

We have set up network accounts for our Snow Leopard Users on several Macs, which work great except for applications that use a local Sqlite database for their preferences/cache. The biggest problem being Acrobat reader which launches and crashes immediately giving an Sqlite error.

A local account on the same machine has none of these problems which leads me to believe that it is due to applications storing their Sqlite in the user's profile folder /Users/JDoe which due to our network account setup is really a Samba share smb://server/users/JDoe.

I'm guessing that the Sqlite driver can't properly lock the file over SMB/CIFS hence the issues.

So can we:

1. Somehow change our Samba share to be more Sqlite friendly?
2. Use Samba Vetoing (or similar) to exclude .sqlite files
3. Use symbolic links so that the .sqlite files in the users profile are actually local files perhaps stored in /Users/Shared
4. Some other far more intelligent solution.
