Questions[autofs](server)

Because of a show-stopping bug in Debian autofs 4, I just upgraded to autofs5. It is not honoring the timeout option in my auto.master file:

/var/autofs/removable /etc/auto.removable --timeout=2

I use this map for thumb drives and so on; I don't want a general default timeout of 2 seconds.

I did some digging and although the --timeout option worked in autofs 4, and it appears in some examples on the Web, it is not actually sanctioned (or even mentioned) in the documentation for the auto.master file. So I don't feel I can report the problem as a bug.

How can I get autofs5 to timeout after 2 seconds only on designated filesystems?

Update: I am using a Debian-packaged autofs5, version 5.0.4-3.2.

I have set up two directories mounted with automount (via LDAP):

in the /home directory automount is configured to mount

*   -fstype=bind :/network/srv/home/&

in the /network directory one entry

srv    -fstype=nfs4,rw,sec=sys,noatime,hard,intr,proto=tcp,timeo=100,port=2049 myserver:/

when i try to access the home directory of a user (e.g. ls /home/myuser), automount fails with the error message:

>> mount: special device /network/srv/home/myuser does not exist
failed to mount /home/myuser

when i do the 'bind mount' manually using

mount -o bind /network/srv/home/myuser /home/myuser

automount for /network/srv is triggered and the myuser home directory is successfully mounted to /home/myuser.

Any ideas how to tell automount to load the /network/srv before trying to mount /network/srv/home/myuser???

I use autofs to mount some iso files in folder /mnt/iso:

Fedora-13-x86_64-DVD.iso
Fedora-14-x86_64-DVD.iso
Fedora-15-x86_64-DVD.iso

The autofs is working fine and I can see the contents of iso files:

# ls /mnt/iso/fedora.13/
# ls /mnt/iso/fedora.14/
# ls /mnt/iso/fedora.15/

After finish the autofs testing. I force unmount all iso folders:

# umount -l /mnt/iso/*

I then export the /mnt/iso in /etc/exports:

/mnt/iso        192.168.0.0/24(ro,insecure,crossmnt,all_squash)

The NFS service is working fine too. I may mount the /mnt/iso from another machine via nfs client:

# mount -t nfs4 <nfs-server>:/mnt/iso /mnt

I can see all iso mount in /mnt/ folder:

# ls /mnt
dr-xr-xr-x 15 nobody nobody 4096 2011-06-11 10:23 .
drwxr-xr-x 24 root   root   4096 2011-02-08 08:45 ..

However, when I try to list the contents for each folder:

#  ls /mnt/fedora.13

Nothing shown on screen. Using command like this

#  ls /mnt/fedora.13/*

prompt

ls: cannot access /mnt/fedora.13/*: No such file or directory

The only case I success to list out the content of the iso folders in nfs client machine is using this steps:

Unmount nfs share from client machine:

# umount /mnt

using ls to show all sub-trees of /mnt/iso in nfs server:

# ls /mnt/iso/*

The autofs will mount all iso files automatically.

Mount the nfs folder in client machine:

# mount -t nfs4 <nfs-server>:/mnt/iso /mnt

List the sub-trees of /mnt:

# ls /mnt/*

You may then see all the contents in nfs client machine.

However, this defeat the purpose of autofs, as I need to show the contents once in the autofs machine first.

Does anyone has any ideas? I am using the following:

1. Fedora 13 x86_64
2. autofs-5.0.5-28
3. nfs-utils-1.2.2.2-2

I have a workstation, on which I have a local user account with a local home directory. I'm also a part of an organization, in which I have a NIS user/home directory. I would like to setup autofs in order to access some shared NFS directories.

The problem is, that after I do that, it automounts over my local home directory when I try to access it, which is not desirable for me.

Is there a way to prevent autofs from mounting to this mountpoint?

In a more general manner, is there a way to prevent autofs from mounting over existing directories?

I have a system running RHEL 5.5, and I am trying to mount a Windows share on a server using autofs. (Due to the network not being ready upon startup, I do not want to utilize fstab.) I am able to mount the shares manually, but autofs is just not mounting them.

Here are the files I am working with:

At the end of /etc/auto.master, I have:

## Mount this test share:
/test    /etc/auto.test    --timeout=60

In /etc/auto.test, I have:

test    -fstype=cifs,username=testuser,domain=domain.com,password=password ://server/test

I then restart the autofs service.

However, this does not work. ls-ing the directory does not return any results. I have followed all these guides on the web, and I either don't understand them, or they.just.don't.work.
