I have a vanilla install of CoreOS (835.9.0) and it doesn't start the docker daemon on startup. It only starts when I SSH in and do eg docker ps.
How can i make the docker daemon automatically start on system boot?
When i say the docker daemon, i mean ps -ef | grep docker shows no processes until after i do docker ps
Is it possible on Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 machines to see which user rebooted the server?
I have found the shutdown event in the System event log, but it does not show which user initiated the reboot.
I have a script on an EC2 instance that remotely starts another instance.
Once this instance has fully loaded (finished booting) I want it to automatically run a bash script, what would be the best way to do this?
I need everything to be fully started, basically the bash script runs a image conversion script (using ImageMagick and executes the "wget" command a few times)
Currently, the script is located here:
/home/root/beginProcess.sh
And I can start it manually by executing
bash beginProcess.sh
RHEL-6.2-Starter-EBS-i386

What is the recommended size for a Linux /boot partition?
And is it safe to not have a /boot partition?
I see some servers don't have a /boot partition while some servers have a 128 MB /boot partition. I am a little confused. Is /boot partition necessary? If it is, how large should it be?
I'm changing the way that our DHCP/DNS stuff works at work. Currently we've got 3 DNS servers, and a DHCP box. All of them are VMs.
There's a circular dependency where stuff booting requires NFS, which requires DNS. So when we reboot stuff, things might come back subtly broken until the DNS is up, and we restart some services.
What I want to do is have a few low power servers, probably dual core Atoms or similar, running from SSDs, so that they boot damn fast. I want to make the whole thing boot as near to instantaneously as possible.
Ideally I'd like to use Ubuntu 11.10, or Debian 6 as the OS. I'm not interested in Gentoo or compiling my own kernel. This needs to be reasonably supportable by myself.
Other than SSD drives, what other optimization steps can I take to improve boot speed?
