Questions[chgrp](server)

I'm just starting off with NFSV4 and had a few questions. So normally when creating an NFS share on a NAS filer and mounting on a client I would run a chmod & chgrp to set things up the way I want.

Now, I have done that already on existing exports.

When I move to NFSV4, what happens to those changes that were made on the exports?

Do the ACL's that get applied for NFSV4 surpersese those changes?

Moving forward with new NFVS4 exports, do I even need to run chmod and chgp anymore or strictly run the normal "nfs4_setfacl" commands?

When I setup NFSV4 are the chmod & chgrp settings basically deprecated and no longer applpy?

Keep in mind I said I have a NAS filer and not a NFS server that is on Linux machine.

I'm trying to change permissions on a folder as root on Centos server using:

 chgrp -Rv ftpusers /var/www/html

seems like everything is right in verbose. I have two users in ftpusers group however, only user1 can write to html folder. So I have to use chown -R user2:ftpusers /var/www/html to switch permissions

Why chgrp is not working?

I also used:

 chmod -R g+rw /var/www/html

But no luck

I am using rsync to sync a directory to a USB-mounted device. That device automounts with myuser:root ownership. When I rsync my directory (that has myuser:myuser ownership) with -a, I get many of the following errors:

rsync: chgrp "filename" failed: Operation not permitted (1)

I tried adding --no-g after the -a option (since in this case I don't care about setting the group), but the errors persist. What do I need to do to stop rsync from trying to chgrp everything?

I normally do

sudo chgrp -R www-data <directory>

on Ubuntu to set a folder writable by the Apache process. What's the Mac OS X equivalent for www-data?

I have used chgrp for the 'logs' and 'cache' directories, and chmod 770, so both the linux user asigned to that site (used to execute scripts from the command-line), and the user 'apache' can read/write log and cache files (because both users belong to the group of that site).

The problem is that when one of them creates a file, the other one is not able to write or delete it. The file is being created as owned by its creator, but not belonging to the group. I thought using chgrp in the parent directory was the solution.

Any ideas?

PS: I'm on Centos 5.5, and PHP 5.3
