A fairly advanced Windows user here (operating at 3rd Line/TA level for 15 years).

Today is 16th June 2016...

I just browsed through a 100GB of photos within my local Pictures folder collected over the last 20 years or so. I noticed that every single file has had it's CREATED (not modified) time stamp changed to 9th June 2015 (with time between 0630-0650). Note: 2015, not 2016! The time stamps were all correct last time I checked them (about 5 weeks ago). I know they were correct because I have a Robocopy script which mirrors the pictures to a network share and tells me if a file is detected as older/newer or missing, so I have a good handle on things in that respect.

The time stamp is totally made up. It reflects a date/time in the past (over a year old) that has no correlation with anything that I know of. This seems to be the work of something in the background that is totally ruining good old convention by playing around with and modifying time stamps as per it's liking. Quite frankly, it's bad manners and something new to Windows 8.1/10. I know some third party software changes the modified time stamp without asking (also bad manners) but this seems like a Windows process as I have no third party image processing tools on my PC (and it has affected only picture files).

Any ideas? Anyone experienced the same?

I am attempting to rename a large batch of files to incorporate the dates in the "Date Modified" column from File Explorer into each filename in YYYYMMDD format. I was able to generate a report from the desired file folder of all the files inside using the following steps:

1. Click on the Tips and Tricks folder
2. Hold down the Shift key and right-click the Tips and Tricks folder
3. Click “Open Command Window Here”
4. Type dir>filename.txt
5. Click Enter
6. Open the Tips and Tricks folder and look for a text file with the filename you created

I then pulled the report into Excel as a delimited text file and manipulated the content so I now have the "last modified" date in one column and the filename in another:

I have only had success using rename scripts like the following:

my php-generated thumbnail files and combined javascript and css files (all having their expiration dates anc cache=public set etc) return the full content sometimes, other times they load from proxy cache!

This is the comment that redbot.org gives, sometimes:

An If-Modified-Since conditional request returned the full content unchanged.

How can I set the modification time of a file on Mac OS X from the command line?

I am trying to write a backup solution, which will take snapshots of a folder using hardlinks and rsync, every hour it will run though its thing, and take the snapshot. I have most of it sorted already, it's just small details that I'm missing.

I'm already planning a system that will clear out old backups depending on how far apart they are, and how old they are in a sort of exponential backoff fashion. It will therefore not take up dramatically much disk space to keep hourly backups. (the age of each backup is divided by the backup one after it...)

I will however be running this on a machine that will regularly have no changes to backup (overnight, when people are on holiday, etc.) and as such, I'd like to take this into account. If only for the purposes of power saving.

Is there any way tell when the last modified time of the entire /home/ directory is?

Perferably without fully traversing the directory, as this would somewhat defeat the point.

Is there any better way to do this?
