Questions[httphandler](server)

I have a long standing IIS 7.5 box that suddenly stopped working mid morning today. Something has obviously changed but I have been unable to determine what and would appreciate any suggestion.

All of the sites on the IIS server have started returning the same error page when viewed locally - HTTP Error 404.4 - Not Found The resource you are looking for does not have a handler associated with it.

The server has a number of web sites on it, mostly asp.net but there are some others.

Things I have tried (in no particular order) -

• Restarting the IIS Server
• Restarting the Windows Server
• Setting up a plain static html website
• Comparing applicationhost.config with the versions in the history folder
• Checking the handlers appear to be configured correctly (they do as fas as I can see).
• Added FX_schema.patch.xml as per Unrecognized element 'ProviderOption' when trying to use Powershell Set-WebConfigurationProperty
• Checked the server logs but can't see anything around the time this started.

I'm at a loss now for ideas so would appreciate any suggestions.

I'm trying to restrict a particular folder on my site to only allow certain files to be posted via mobile device.

We are exporting data and movies from iPhones and iPod touches, so I'd like to limit the browser user-agent type to Safari, as well. Is this done through the http handler?

I am trying to make AspNetComet.zip work on IIS7 (a simple comet chat implementation) Here is a portion of my web.config.

When I publish the website on my localhost IIS7 I receive an error:

POST http://localhost/DefaultChannel.ashx 500 Internal Server Error

Could not load type 'Server.Channels.DefaultChannelHandler

The target framework of this project is .Net 2.0 I tried the Classic and Integrated Mode application pool for .Net 2.0 with no luck. I also tried converting the project to 4.0 and tried the Classic and Integrated Mode application pool for .Net 4.0 with no luck. I also tried adding the managed handler through IIS Manager's Handler Mappings.

If you have time please download the source (184kb) to reproduce the problem on your own machine. The zip contains a VS2010 solution (.Net 2.0). You could also try to convert this to .Net 4.0

I am using Windows 7 anyway if that matters. If you need more details, please drop your comments below. This is working fine by the way on my webdev server.

We have a web-app that basically catches all requests for url-rewriting purposes, except for a certain sub directory (/static) which has it's own web.config (NOT a subapplication!), which defines a StaticFileModule for all files.

However, since it is the same HttpApplication, all events are still fired for these requests, including OnAuthenticateRequest which is kind of problematic for us.

I wonder if there is anything I can configure in web.config to make it bypass the event-chain, or certain events in the chain (I have been looking into to no avail), or completely detach the sub directory from the root application (preferably without configuring the sub directory as an application)?

As of now I have use a special case in my OnAuthenticateRequest in order to bypass it, but I would like to contain it into the sub directory itself (not needing to maintain code in order to have static directories).
