Old, I know, but that's what I'm working with.

I need to update to JRun update 6 (or 7) but the Adobe site only has a .exe installer.

  • That installer wants to update C:\JRun4\.
  • That folder doesn't exist, and my JRun.exe is in D:\CFUSION\runtime\bin\.
  • ColdFusion is up to date (for that era) at MX7.02, so I assume I need to update JRun directly.

Is there a way to update JRun 4 automatically or manually when it is part of the ColdFusion install?

I have to migrate an existing installation of Contribute Publishing Services server to another machine.

Problem Context
I have installed a fresh copy of the CPS server software. Adjusted the server.xml file to reflect the new environment. I have logged in and linked this new instance to the same instance of open LDAP that the original server is chatting to and verified the connection and returned valid data.

I have also migrated the

  • database folder

  • sites folder

  • ckm.xml file

( As per the Adobe Knowledge base article 1238b09)
I can log into the CPS server management inteface and view the basic information about each site under management.
I can get the Contribute Client to connect to the server and authenticate me against the open LDAP server.

Actual Problem
When I make a connection to the new server instance with the contribute client and request the sites.

connect:address:port/contribute

I get a message saying that the system has no new sites for me.
Each of the sites in the sites folder has a user directory and that user directory has the correct identifiers for the users. These identifiers are actually the email addresses returned through open LDAP.

Does anybody have any experience with CPS and have an idea what might be going on ?

We are running JRun 4 and have lots of crashes. I am trying to understand where the problems are coming from and have modified the jrun.xml file to enable metrics logging.

This is what I'm seeing...

The book I've been reading (Adobe Coldfusion Anthology, Apress) suggests the "busy" number is the free memory in MB. The Adobe documentation says it's "Threads currently running". Which is correct?

Also, what does all this mean?

If I'm reading it correctly, I have 100 total threads, and 3 busy ones. So what are the other 97 threads doing if they are neither busy nor delayed?

We just had to restart the coldfusion server as it had become unresponsive. Looking at the Apache error log (We have jrun 4 through Apache on a RedHat server), I see the following over and over...

This happens again and again, so I assume whatever is causing it is spawing these extra children until the server runs out of memory and stops responding.

What I can't work out is why this is happening. Is anyone familiar with jrun and might know what's going on?

We are planning to upgrade our application servers to a new version of JRun which is carrying with it an upgrade from Java 1.4 to Java 1.6. As part of that, we have been testing various pieces of our software stack and realized the need to look at our Oracle JDBC drivers as well.

Looking at the Oracle site and documentation, the different versions seem to be primarily targeting various versions of the JDBC API, which tend to correspond to the version of the JVM they were introduced in. With Java (generally) being backwards compatible, it seems like sticking with ojdbc14.jar might make the most sense, but I was hoping someone out there could clarify things a bit better.

The docs specifically call out a chart like this, which makes me wonder if ojdbc14.jar is officially supported under Java 6.

classes12.jar - for Java 1.2 and 1.3
ojdbc14.jar - for Java 1.4 and 1.5
ojdbc5.jar - for Java 1.5
ojdbc6.jar - for Java 1.6

Is there something I should be aware of from a systems perspective when mixing and matching drivers and virtual machines?
