Wrote a Kapacitor task that returns an alert message that I can then pipe to other outputs (Sensu, PagerDuty), the problem is that the formatting is not readable.

rabbitmq_memory_usage is CRITICAL: Memory used is too high on 
rabbit@prod-rb-fetcher37 at value: 3.949512928e+08!

I am trying to get kapacitor to trigger an alert based on collectd data in influxdb. Am basing my tick file on the answer in using kapacitor with influxdb and collectd.

I have defined the alert as per kapacitor docs:

kapacitor define cpu_alert -type stream -tick cpu_alert.tick -dbrp collectd.default

Appropriate data is being sent to influxdb from collectd and available via query:

select value from /cpu_value/ where type='percent' and type_instance = 'idle' order by time desc limit 10;

However running :

kapacitor record stream -task cpu_alert -duration 20s &

does not record any data:

$ kapacitor list recordings

I suspect that I may not be correctly referencing the database when I register the task, but cannot see where I have an error.

I'm trying to integrate Kapacitor with our influxdb and collectd setup. However, It doesn't seem to work, and I don't understand why.

Collectd and Influxdb are running correctly, and I think Kapacitor is able to connect to influxdb. In the kapacitor log I see this:

[influxdb] 2016/04/22 09:46:42 I! started UDP listener for collectd_db default

This is the name of the influxdb database where collectd is recording metrics.

I created the following tick-file, and uploaded it to kapacitor and enabled it:

This was just a test script, which hopefully produces some output.

The script is enabled:

However, I don't see any recordings:

"cpu_value" is a valid measurement in my database.

This is what I get in my error log:

[cpu_alert:stream1] 2016/04/28 13:00:51 E! error while evaluating WHERE expression: name "percent" is undefined. Names in scope: time,value,host,instance,type,type_instance
