Questions[make](server)

Due to a bug (similar to this one) i'm facing with iptables in Centos 7, I'd like to update the version of iptables.

# yum update iptables
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks

So I figured I'd update to either the latest (from their git) or to the tagged 1.6.0.

I managed to add the libraries needed to get ./autogen.sh to run, then managed to ./configure --disable-nftables and make and make install.

Now i'm not sure how I can run this version to test it, and how to implement it if it works as the default iptables.

I'm installing Bugzilla on a new Ubuntu server, and ./checksetup.pl finds one more library I need to install.

So it tells me to run this command:

/usr/bin/perl install-module.pl Math::Random::Secure

When I run it, I get the following error:

ERROR: Using install-module.pl requires that you install "make".

Make is installed (apt-get install make) and I know it's in my $PATH (in /usr/bin/) but I still get that error from install-module.pl.

Do I have to do something special to ensure it has the right path or should the path from my shell be used? Is "make" referring to the make I have installed or could it refer to some perl module instead?

Alright -- having a bad couple days here compiling Apache 2.2.21 on CentOS 5.7 with the following configure commands:

./configure --enable-ssl=shared --with-ssl=/usr/local/openssl

I've compiled from source OpenSSL 1.0.0e from source:

./config --prefix=/usr/local --openssldir=/usr/local/openssl shared zlib-dynamic

I attempt to start Apache and it returns:

httpd: Syntax error on line 54 of /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/local/apache2/modules/mod_ssl.so into server: /usr/local/apache2/modules/mod_ssl.so: undefined symbol: SSL_get_servername

If I look at how the libraries are linked, this is what I get:

Basically, I've tired compiling from source OpenSSL (both 0.9.8r and 1e), having yum reinstall from the repos, done a make clean and remade both OpenSSL and Apache numerous times -- but I can't get it to compile into the apache base or dynamically as a shared object file.

What am I doing wrong here?

Update 1:

After doing a make clean and make distclean, I've reconfigured with the same parameters as above without any effect.

The config.log is at Pastebin.

Update 2:

Modifying the LD_LIBRARY_PATH had no effect on the lib-deps of mod_ssl.so.

UPDATE 3:

I've compiled and recompiled many times, and verified with ldconfig that the OpenSSL libs dir is in my path, and included in ld.so.conf. Still cannot get httpd/mod_ssl to load the library at runtime.

I need to add MySQL support to my PHP installation on RHEL4. I need to rebuild PHP from source due to other extensions that are required. Will Apache be down for a few seconds when I restart it, or will I need to stop it while I install PHP?

I am trying to run macports like thus:

port install php5

When I do so, however, I get this error:

Error: Unable to open port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it? 

So I looked at my path:

declare -x PATH="/Developer/usr/bin:/opt/subversion/bin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/local/php5/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin" 

and then looked to make sure make was in one of those dirs:

ls -l /Developer/usr/bin/make

$ lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 7 Aug  7 16:47 /Developer/usr/bin/make -> gnumake

And typing:

make

produces:

make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found.  Stop.

So I know that it's there.

But macports can't find it. Any ideas?
